C-sections

Staples

I had a RCS on Friday AM where the doctor used staples (didn't have them last time).  I have to go back to the postpartum clinic this afternoon to have the staples removed and I have no idea what to expect.  Can someone share what their staple removal process was like?

Re: Staples

  • After my c-section, the staple removal was what terrified me the most.  I kept stressing myself out even though every nurse and doctor I asked told me it wouldn't hurt.  They were right.  I really didn't feel a thing.  If I felt anything, it was just a little tug and at most, like a hair being pulled out, but that was only on one or two stables.  They did accidentally leave one in though (it was hiding under a stery strip and I didn't notice it until about a week later).  I was REALLY worried that one would hurt to remove since it had been there for so long, but when they took it out I didn't feel a thing either.  I know it is hard not to, but don't stress.  It's quick and easy!

  • Thank you very much. I am totally stressed (and grossed) out by the whole thing so to hear that it is no big deal is really helpful.
  • Takes under a minute and you are still so numb you won't feel it.........

I was healing really quickly and mine started to come out on their own. So i went in and they pulled them out. I didn't feel anything.

  • I was scared too. I had 13 staples. Didn't feel a thing. Nothing. One was even bent and the nurse said that one might tug....didn't feel it either. It was quick and easy. My friend is a nurse and said for some people it can feel sore when they come out. She recommended I take my percocet before, bit I didn't. So if you are worried ...take some tylenol or pain killer like 30 min before you go.

  • I didn't feel mine either and it was really fast and easy.
  • You were right... that was so easy.  Thanks for the info!
  • Mine hurt like a stabbing ripping pain...but my dr left them in for 2 weeks and the skin had grown over them alot... I have a scar where the one ripped te skin about an inch and they had to put liquid stich on it...mine took forever to heal but I think that was mainly due to them not changing my bandages in the hospital i was there 6 days... and them not taking them out in a timely manner...

    You should be fine :)

  • It was a relief for me. Mine were so itchy and I was always scared they would get caught on something. It didn't hurt at all.

They removed mine the morning I was discharged. Didn't feel a thing.

  • I had my staples removed before I was discharged...and was really freaking out abou them taking them out.  I was given my pain meds 30 minutes before they did it, just in case...but was told it'll feel like it does when you tweeze your eyebrows...and that's literally how it felt to me.  I think I would've been fine without the meds.
