Pregnant after IF

Oh the heartburn!

I don't know if it's because I'm finally in third tri, or if I've been more stressed, or what.  But the past week my heartburn has been SO bad!  I've upped my Pepcid from one a day to two a day (which is the max I can take) but I still have terrible heartburn within a few hours of taking my Pepcid, then it lasts until I take the next one.  It's to the point that I'm hardly eating anymore because it hurts so bad and food just sounds awful.  Any suggestions?  I see my OB next Thursday so I'll ask her then, but what can I do until then?

Re: Oh the heartburn!

  • I've had wicked heartburn for two weeks now - it gets so bad I want to throw up. I'm sorry you're dealing with that Sad

I'm going to try Zantac or Pepcid (I've been using just Tums). The one thing I will say that always works when the Tums don't is drinking a glass of milk. That seems to quiet things down enough so I can sleep.

    Feel better soon, Hon.

Oh, my Ob yesterday said if Pepcid and Zantac don't work she can Rx something - maybe talk to your Ob about a Rx?

My heartburn has been increasing lately, too.  I usually just stick to Tums, but I would recommend Zantac.  It's on my list of safe meds from the OB and I swore by them before I was pregnant.  For now the Tums are doing the job, but if it gets any worse, I'll definitely be going back to Zantac.

  • I hear that heartburn is a sign of a baby with lots of hair at birth. That could be just an old wifes tale. LOL! I hope you feel better soon.

  • Mine was really, really bad too. I couldn't sleep, it was so bad. I tried everything over the counter. My OB gave me a rx for Prilosec. She said she has never seen any issues with use of this med. My friend also had it bad and used Prilosec her entire third trimester.

I hope you can get some relief soon!

I take Zantac once/day and it seems to be helping.  I was taking the max daily dose of tums and I just couldn't handle it anymore.
