May 2012 Moms

Logan Carolina is here... for 2 weeks now!

So, this is a little late. It has also been a bit crazy the past 2 1/2 weeks. My amazing daughter, Logan Carolina, joined us May 5th, at 6:19 PM.

I still need to write the full birth story, if not for here, but for my own memories and keepsakes, but here is the short version.

We were admitted into the hospital on Friday night, May 4th, for a planned induction. The induction process started at about 10 PM on Friday night with the use of a filly bulb (sp?). Since I was already 1 cm dilated, the use of cytotec or cervadil were not necessary. At about 3 AM, the bulb was removed and I was about 3 cm dilated. The doctors then started the pitocin, on low. The pitocin started the contractions going on a more frequent basis. I was already having regular contractions, but they were spaced out. The pitocin sped up the process and the intensity. By 6 AM, they broke my water. That really got the contractions going. Holy crap, what a large amount of fluid. I never knew I had that much in me! Apparently, I did not have a shortage of fluid.

By 8 AM, the contractions were a 10 on the 1 - 10 scale. I accepted the fact that they hurt like hell and requested the epidural. An hour later I was set up and finally given a bit of relief. Unfortunately, the combination of the pitocin and the other meds I was on ( magnesium sulfate for my BP) were counteracting each other. My contractions began to get further apart and were playing havoc on mine and baby's BP. I was also no longer dilating. Flash forward to 4 PM. Still in labor, not progressing, only at 4 cm. At that point, the doctor said if I didn't start progressing, we would have to talk c-section. By 5:15 PM, the doctor came in, checked me again and while I was finally at 6 cm, the baby was having distress with every contraction. We were now headed for a c-section.

I was prepped and wheeled down to surgery. Logan was born at 6:19 at 7 lbs, 13 oz. 20.5 inches long, with a head full of hair. She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

The past 2 weeks have been quite the roller coaster, but happy to have her here. Now, we are just trying to figure out the sleeping thing and making sure momma has eaten at least something during the day.

I hope you are all doing well. I will try to catch up and post more pictures when I can. Hugs and sleep sent to you all. Sorry the pics are so big, no idea how to make them smaller.
