Is there such thing as holding your baby to much? I do want to hold him, but I want to make sure he is not getting the signs of if he cries then mommy will pick him up all the time.He is almost 4 weeks old. I know right now he can't self soothe himself.
Re: Holding to much
The idea that holding a baby "spoils" them was made popular a few decades ago and wasn't based on any real science - any modern article or book would tell you to hold your baby plenty: it's good for their emotional development, your milk supply, and your relationship with your child.
A lot of fads come & go with parenting and to me, it seems any "new" advice that tells you not to follow your natural instincts as a mother isn't worth listening to.
So true! And when you look back on this time with your LO, think of what do you want to remember most--cuddling and cherishing these baby days or fighting with yourself to "not spoil" you baby? They are only babies once! Next they will be asking for our cars and going to college!
My son LOVED to be held. He was happy as long as I was holding him. So I did. It was hard at that time because I have back problems, but I have no regrets. Now that he is 5, he wouldn't let me hold him more than 5 seconds!!
Personally, I think it's important for my kids to know we are here for them. If I were crying, I would want my husband to ask me if I was okay. I would do the same for my kids.
