Will Helen be lumped in with all the Ella/Ellies?

DH and I like the name Helen for our DD on the way.  But I know a million Ella and Ellie's under the age of 2, not to mention Stellas, Adeles, and even an "Elle."  So clearly the "el" sound is a popular one!

On paper Helen seems totally different to me, but then when I saying it out loud, it makes me wonder...will Helen get lumped in or confused with all the Ella's and Ellies out there?

Re: Will Helen be lumped in with all the Ella/Ellies?

  • Personally, I wouldn't lump Helen or Ellen in with all of the Stellas, Ellas and Isabellas out there.

Helen sounds much less trendy. I like it.

  • I don't think so!  I love Helen.  Good choice.

  • Totally different. Helen is an older name to me. More linked with Eleanor, Alice, etc...Ellie and Ella's have become too trendy to be linked to Helen. This would have never crossed my mind.

Not at all. Helen is beautiful and I think it's an older classic.

  • No. No one will ever call your child Hella or Hellie, or, God forbid, HELLE, so I think you're okay!
