ergo carrier- weight limit or age limit for infant insert

I use the ergo with our  12 week oldson.  he is 24ish inches and 15ish lbs.  We have used the infant insert until now, but he seems to be getting to crowded.  The ergo site says to use the insert from newborn -4/5 months  but then it also says use it from 7-12 lbs.  

Do I go with the months or the pounds?? any ideas?

    If you think LO is getting too big you are probably right. We didn't use the insert for long. I did fold up receiving blankets and put them underneath him for a while after we stopped using the insert.

    Does he have head control yet? Just roll up a small blanket to put under his rear end to boost him up a bit.

    My kid was(and still is) pretty big, and we still kept her in it until 4 months.  It helps because they don't have head/neck control yet.

    It really depends more on head/neck control than age.  If your LO is big enough with good head control then you are fine without it.  You can give him a boost with a blanket if he needs it.

    They want you to use the insert until 4 months when they have good head and neck control.  Their website says to use the whole insert until they're over 12 lbs. Then you can take out the pillow and just the outer shell layer for head and neck support until 4 months.

    We had him in it for about 4 hours today at an event.  Because of the heat I went without the insert.  He did really well, since he sleeps for most of the time it was fine. Thanks for the help!

    Go with whatever he meets first like everything else...12lbs first or 4 mos first. Same with the carseat, if they reach the height limit before the weight, then you have to upgrade to something else and vice versa.
