Now that our LO's are close to turning 1 soon, how many of you have thought of continuing bfing past 1?
When I got pregnant I always said I would bf only for one year. Now having my LO I have completely changed my mind. It makes me sad when I think of stopping bfing. I love the bond LO, and I have through bfing. Plus, there are so many benefits to continuing bfing.
When are you all weaning your LO's? Is anyone else doing extended bfing?
Re: Extended breast feeding
I said I hoped to get to a year. Now it will be at least 18 months...probably longer. I will let DD wean but don't know how I feel about going too far past 2...

My original goal was one year, but after learning more about the benefits of continuing on longer, I'm definitely going to keep going. I don't know when we'll wean. I think I might just follow DD's lead.
The last couple of weeks have been rough ever since her latch got messed up with the addition of her top 2 front teeth. We're pushing through it though.

I'd like to nurse LO as long as she's interested, but I don't really want to nurse while pregnant or tandem nurse, so I'll probably wean when we start TTC (when she's around 2), if she hasn't weaned yet, assuming things keep going as well as they have been for us.
/run-on sentence, ha ha.
I will wean at one, if his allergy panel comes back with no dairy allergies. If it does, then we'll have to come up with Plan B.
Made it to 14mon with DS1 before he self-weaned; DS2 would wean right now and take milk in a sippy if I'd let him. He is just too "busy" of a nurser.
I've been pregnant, breastfeeding or both since December 2008. Might make me a bad mom, but I am so ready for a break.
I would like to nurse as long as she wants up to 2 years.
Once I start back to work I don't know what will happen with my supply so I plan to just play it by ear.
I dont know if you read kellymom but this shocked me! I mean I always knew it was good for the babies but never hoooow good! I didnt even really want to breast feed in the first place because of work and school but now my daughter is two and neither of us are quite ready to wean!

I plan on it. Our plan was always to BF until N weaned himself and we are sticking to that.
This will probably get me flames, but I don't get when people say they are so sad to be weaning, that such and such date is their last day to BF, etc. If it makes you that sad, why not just continue? I do understand that there are legitimate reasons to stop, but it sometimes seems people get stuck on some arbitrary date (like a first birthday) and don't want to alter that no matter how sad they are to be quitting or how well it's going for them.
I hoped to make it to a year, and thought for sure I would be done by one year. Now I'm planning to go past one year for a lot of reasons. It has been going well for us. She isn't eating enough solid food that I think she would get enough nutrition without BFing. It really helps calm and focus her, and I'd hate to lose that "tool." And I really love the connection with her! Now I think I'll go to 18 months or so, maybe up to 2 years, but I don't want to go past 2 years. The only reason I would think of purposefully weaning her before then is if I can't get pg again without doing so. I still don't have AF back, so I'm a little concerned about that.
