Fed Up-Definitely a vent sesh

Angela has been on what seems like every formula and nothing has helped her horribly dry skin/eczema. Her head has gotten worse and she's constantly scratching at her head and pulling on her clothes on her belly. We confirmed through a blood test she has a milk allergy and a slight zinc deficiency. She's now on Nutramigen and her poops have gotten better, but her skin is still so horrible.

I got confirmation today from Daycare and they agree that her skin gets worse and rashier after she eats. My doctor has dismissed this statement in the past and has told me to 'manage' the eczema and not much else we can do but keep her mosturized. I put Aquaphor on her constantly because it keeps her mosturized the longest which honestly isn't more than 20 minutes. Day care also said they think I need to be more agressive with the doctor, Angela just isn't happy and she sleeps a lot. I also brought this up and they said it's normaly for babies to still sleep up to 20 hours a day at this age (she'll be 4 months next week).

Her head is also bleeding. This was the trigger for me today. I have an appt tomorrow and am hoping that we can see a specialist whether it's dermatologist or allergist. I just feel like my baby is not comfortable and there has to be something other than mosturizing her that can help.

I just have a gut feeling it's an allergic reaction of some sort. Especially since i've had day care and my parents agree she gets worse after she eats.

Okay. That feels better. If any one else has similar situations and want to share please feel free!

  • Maybe you should switch doctors.

  • Kinda similiar situation here

DD has a skin sensitivity to anything that isnt 100% cotton. She breaks out in the terriable rash all over if she touches anything  that isnt 100% cotton. her face, head, body and she pulls her clothes and rubs her face/head like it is super itchy.

We elimated EVERYTHING that isnt 100% cotton and it cleared up alot, we still have out breaks, when someone holds her that isnt wearing cotton and I forget to put a blanket in between them, apparently some people's perfume/detergent sets it off too.

It can be frustrating when you feel like you are doing everything to prevent it and all of the sudden the rash is back.

  • How did you determine it was due to the fabric? Just elimination? It's just so frustrating to see them uncomfortable. :(

  • Your doctor should never dismiss anything you have to say!  They should be willing to evaluate your concerns.  It happens so often that a mother just knows something by instinct.  You should have a doctor that trusts that instinct, especially with confirmations from you, day care, and your parents about when the reaction occurs!  I say either get pushy or get a new doc.

The doctor thought it might be because of the fabric and wanted us to eliminate everything that isnt 100% cotton and slowly introduce new fabrics. We did and so far anything that we introduce that isnt cotton makes her break out so we are just sticking to cotton for now.  Plus she gave us a cream that makes the itching stop and clears up the rash very quickly (within a few hours) when she is exposed to non-cotton fabrics, so it isnt that big of a deal anymore as long as we stay away from everything that isnt cotton.

  • It definitely sounds like an allergy! DD has had some eczema that gets worse when we use certain laundry and bath soaps. She isalso sensitive to any dairy I eat. She was getting huge rashes on her head and constantly scratching herself. We use coconut oil, changed soaps, etc. to eliminate most of it. If you LO is having a reaction to what she's eating, definitely get a second opinion!! And 20min isn't normal when there are other problems involved. I hope you get this figured out asap!

  • Get pushy with the Dr or get a second opinion. Dr's can play the "wait it out" game with me, but when it comes to DS, I'm much more aggressive in my stances. *hugs* I hope you can figure it out soon and give that little girl some relief!
