Acupuncture last night- alot to think about

I returned to acupuncture last night, for the first time since last fall, I figured its worth the money for this last IUI cycle and I like to bounce things off my acupuncturist.

She deals with fertility exclusively so I find she's very knowledgeable. I told her my RE is recommending IVF next and to my surprise she agrees it might be a good next step. She said its clear I'm still fertile, but it's not that much more intense than the IUI cycles I've been doing and she feels like we have an advantage if we get a bunch of eggs all at once and do the PGD testing, we would at least know what we're dealing with and avoid another possible m/c.  She said if there's a big egg quality issue its good to know now, because unlike most alternative med providers, she doesn't believe you can fix egg quality issues.

Of course she's not paying the $20K, lol. I do appreciate her honesty and she's making me feel less scared about the whole process. I'm just hoping IUI #3 & my hsg does the trick this cycle. I have a monitoring appt tmrw at 7am and I'm I'm still really sick..starting doxy tmrw nite for the hsg so hoping that knocks the cold out at the same time!

Re: Acupuncture last night- alot to think about

  • It is a lot to think about.  I waver about the whole being able to improve your egg quality thing.  I don't think my RE believes that you can.  Then there are those that think you can.  I'm doing supplements anyway since I feel better doing that than doing nothing.

I hope your IUI works and you won't even need IVF.  If you do find yourself going down that road in the future, we are here for you.

  • GL this cycle!  I've been doing accupuncture and its certainly helped with stress throughout this process.  We met with the RE this morning and are moving onto IVF this summer.

  • MrsNukem mentioned mixed views on improving egg quality.  I'm really too old to realistically get PG - I now realize, but a few months back I did some intensive research on this issue.  There is some evidence that you can impact your egg quality.  You'll need to research how the follies are formed and what systems in the body impact that process - so what comes before follie development as I recall.  I found a lot that made me feel positive you could have an impact.  Get anything toxic out of your life to begin with - food, fumes, cosmetics and research the supplements, besides folic acid, that you could take to boost the systems that are impacting the follie generation.  I tried to reserect my research but couldn't find it.  There has also been some recent work indicating a type of process or other endocrine piece that may be able to be influenced.  It's like stem cell research, it's sketchy but seem promising.  Can't remember what it was.  But there is lots of info and books on supplements and your accupucturist should be able to perscribe an eastern medicine tea of herbs that will help.  Goodluck!
