Looking into making curtains...

I am planning to make blackout curtains for our 3 upper level bedrooms soon.  I also want to make something for the kitchen window.  ~But what?

I have our blinds open during the day.  However, at night, I close them because you can literally see what the neighbors have on TV.  Roman shades?  I guess my concern is if I did regular curtains, they's get wet/dirty from doing dishes.

    I'd probably do roman shades since you want to open & close them easily.

    I made these, and I hung them up with those ring clips on a regular pressure mount curtain rod.... I don't have an issue with them getting wet, but if I did I'd be able to unclip them and toss them in the dryer. 

    ETA: sorry it's huge. Tinypic won't let me make it a normal size.

    These are cute.  I just don't think the privacy I want for the night.  I am tall, so I think even when closed people could still see my head at night.  Plus DH works nights a lot, so that freaks me out.
