Returning an Non-Registry Item

I received a Fisher Price playmat (https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4013766&searchURL=false) at my shower from a friend who I think had ordered things off our Amazon registry but they didn't arrive in time for the shower so she picked up this item on the way. Super generous, but we already have one that we like, and opened, so I wanted to try and return for store credit somewhere.

However, as I only had an Amazon registry due to my aversion of baby stores I'm kind of at a loss of where I should go to attempt this. I've heard Target's return policy sucks, but I don't know much about it and since I don't have a registry at BRU or BBB I'm worried I might be out of luck at those stores, too. Thoughts?

    Was it shipped? If so, you should be able to return it with the receipt.

     If not, I've heard Target allows up to $75 without receipts a year.

    Unfortunately not and I feel weird about asking her where she purchased it. I'll try Target, that would be the easiest store credit to use I think.

    unfortunately i'm not seeing it on target.com (which i agree would be the best place to get store credit to because you could use the money towards many more things), but like you posted, it's at least at babies r us, so you could get store credit there. just go to customer service and say, "i got this as a gift, but we don't need it. i don't have the receipt, but store credit is fine." and they will give you store credit, no problem. they will probably also ask if it was bought off your registry, but just say no. since they sell it, they will take it back (doesnt matter where it was originally bought, as long as they can give you store credit).

    You can usually return anything to WalMart without a reciept.

    yeah! i just checked and walmart sells it! so that's another option for you! they will give you store credit no problem at all lol

    Do you have a barcode app on your smartphone?  It will tell you all the stores that sell it around you.

    I would check and see what stores sell it.  We got a couple things that weren't on our registry and BRU sold them so I returned them without a receipt for store credit, no questions asked. 
    Books read in 2009: 112
    Books read in 2010: 153
    Books read in 2011: 160
