Questions on newborn poo from a FTM (formula fed)

Hi ladies just wondering if I should be concerned about my little guy. He only poops about every 5 days. No straining and not constipated when he does go they are regular movements. I am just worried every 5 days is a stretch even for a formula fed baby. Hes on Similac. Should I be worried or am I a first time crazy :0) TIA

Shay, is this you???  If so....congrats on becoming a mama!!  I've often wondered how you are doing and am thrilled to see you on here.

In regards to the poop, sounds pretty accurate for a formula fed baby.  How old is he?  As long as they aren't coming out hard, I think he's fine!

I've been told that as long as they aren't straining or constipated, and that the poop is not hard, you are fine.  I would be worried if there were pellets.

Marcuej, yes its me :0) He is three weeks old today.

  • can be normal.  as long as it isn't coming out like little hard pellets.  That is when you worry.

Also, straining is actually normal for them....turning red, etc. because they don't have the muscles developed yet to poop...so they are learning to use them.  So it sometimes looks as theough they are straining but they aren't for a couple of months. As long as they go and it isn't hard.
