anyone learning to knit?

I'm a crafty kinda girl, but I've never knit a thing in my life. I'm jealous of the people that sit and knit while holding a perfectly normal conversation with you. I don't want to try anything crazy, just a simple blanket. Anyone know of any good Youtube teaching videos or simple patterns to try?

Re: anyone learning to knit?

  • www.knittinghelp.com has some good instructional videos on how to do the knit and purl stitches.  I used them when I learned to knit.  If you pick up the hobby and want some great patterns, join ravelry (www.ravelry.com

  • I'm teaching myself how to knit too! Something to pass quiet times when I don't feel like moving. I'm also quilting both babies a blanket so much of my crafty energy goes into that.

  • I've been learning to crochet, but would love to learn knitting - I'm sure it would be much faster than the crochet work I've been doing!

I've been learning to crochet too!  I've always been a crafty kind of girl, and I love cross-stitching and sewing.  But for whatever reason, crochet has been WAY hard for me.  It's definitely not one of those things I can do while I sit and talk to someone, let alone relax or watch a movie.  Sigh, hopefully it will get easier the more I practice.

I taught myself how to both knit and crochet.  I like crochet MUCH MUCH better.  For me it's faster and I can do more things with it.  IE I think I kitted a scarf - once.  But I've done hats, and scarves, and blankets with crochet.
If your interested there is an awesome gal on youtube - the crochet geek, and she makes learning new techniques and patterns easy.  I learned how to make hats from her tutorials.
Good luck and have fun!  It's so cool to put something on your baby that you made yourself!
