I never really saw anyone talk about antibiotics for an HSG but I got put on a pretty heavy duty one two days in advance and two days after the procedure. Is this normal? The antibiotics say not to take them if pregnant but I'm assuming if you get pregnant the same cycle it's ok? (not like i'm holding my breath!)
Re: Antibiotics for HSG?
I haven't had mine yet but just wanted to say I hope the results are good.
I've seen people talking about taking ibuprofen for the pain and I'm thinking 'ibuprofen? let's try vicodin.' LOL

My RE prescribed antibiotics for my HSG - a few days before and I think 5 days afterward. It's preventative to ward off infection since they will be putting stuff in your uterus and a uterine infection can be very dangerous.
The ones I was on were not pregnancy safe but it doesn't really matter - the HSG is performed early enough in your cycle and the abx are out of your system long before you'd get a positive.
