Any hair stylists here?

I got my hair cut and colored yesterday (2 diff people). I love the cut. Hate the color. At first, when he did my color, there was barely any difference, and I asked to go lighter. I told him I wanted it lighter, so he re-did it right there and then. Well, now my hair looks orange and I hate it. I feel like he and I have "communication problems." I want to go to someone else in the same salon to fix it. I'd have to finagle it so that my colorist isn't in the salon that day.

How long do I have to wait before I can go and try to get it fixed? I don't want to damage my hair too much.

(I have brown hair and wanted highlights, my hair has been "bleached")

Re: Any hair stylists here?

  • not a stylist, but i think it's something like a week or 2. call and ask to talk to the manager. tell them that you are unhappy with the result and that you feel that the colorist did not do what you discussed. they *should* offer to redo it and tell you how long to wait.

if you are looking to switch colorists i don't see why you'd have to avoid the old one. they are going to know you were unhappy and seeing someone else.

just be careful with bleach. i have ginger hair and my old stylist bleached the crap out of it. it took FOREVER to gor out the damaged parts.

  • Not a stylist either, but if he was rushing through it, the bleach probably didn't process long enough.  Like PP said, I would call up there.  It might be as easy as putting a toner on it to take out the orange tint. I know it would be akward, but I would just book with someone else next time, and not worry about if the other stylist is there or not...he will see you on the other persons books either way.  Hope you get it fixed soon!

I am a stylist and this is true, especially if it's orange.  Mine will turn orangeish when I get it done and the girl doesn't leave it long enough.  When I do it myself at home, I leave it for almost an hour (without any heat source) and it turns pretty light.  FWIW, the orange usually fades after a few days and then it's just a nice caramel color.

Anyway, once your hair is damaged, there's not much you can do to "un-damage" it, so today would be fine or next week or whenever, it's up to you.  I would call and talk to the salon manager too about it and it's also up to you if you'd like to give the guy a chance to right his wrong or just try someone/somewhere else completely.  Either way, good luck and I hope it turns out the way you want it.

Thank you so  much for your insight. I think what I'll do is make an appt with him to give him a chance to fix it in a week. I'll set it up today, and if in a few days, the orange becomes more caramel-y, I'll cancel.

    Thanks girls!
