diaper changes should be an olympic event these days

Does anyone have a strategy that works?

  • I'm no help. I'm in the same boat. O would fly  off the table if I wasn't holding onto her. I'm thinking of using the straps again.

  • I'd love a good solution! It's a struggle probably 75% of the time. I try to pin her down with one arm while quickly changing with the other before she tries the alligator death roll. Sometimes if I give her something to hold it helps.

  • We were having the same problem.  DS accidentally grabbed a box of tissues the other day, and it kept him entertained for about 20 mins.  He pulled them all out and then we put them back in.  He loved it!  Now we have a box of tissues on the changing table and give it to him while we change his diaper.  When we are done, we pick up the ones that he pulled out of the box and stuff them back in.  I figure that this box will last a couple of weeks and the ease of diaper changes is worth the $1 box of tissues every so often.  Like with any other solutions, I am sure this one will only work for a few weeks.  The remote or my cell phone used to work, but not anymore.

  • I hear ya! I usually give him a book to occupy him, this morning I had to sing little bunny foo foo and he loved it!

  • I totally hear ya. I always give her something to hold (a toy, a diaper, etc)

Yeah, it is crazy.  One thing that works is singing "If You're Happy and You Know it" and trying to get her to clap or make sounds.  She also LOVES the peri bottle I use to wet the cloth wipes.  I need to get a second one so I can have one for her to play with and one to use.
  • For a while, giving her something to hold would work.  Paper towel would keep her entertained for a while.  But...now she takes that object, rolls over and sits up to inspect it.  And then she tries to get into standing.  Actually, what she loves to do is stand or get on to her knees holding on to the end of the changing table and shake it violently.

So much worse when it's a poopy diaper.

This seems to work for us too.

Yes.  I'm going insane.  None of my old tricks are working.  The other day I temporarily gave up while changing her on the floor.  She crawled away and then - within 15 seconds - peed on the floor.  Awesome.

This is Ty!  He also loves to sit, lean forward and pull each and every diaper out of his diaper basket.  Fun times!

  • Same here. Clara does a little trick where she tries to flip over and crawl away with her little naked bootie (when I change her on the bed/floor). The only trick I have is to give her something that she usually can't play with - like a necklace or her ointment bottle or a photo - so that she is so interested in examining it that she forgets to escape.
