Wwyd?

I've been trying to get a hold of my midwife all day to ask her but she must be attending some births since I've had no response. So I'll ask your ladies opinions! For the last two days I've had really bad nauseau and haven't been able to eat, I haven't eaten a whole meal since two nights ago, ive also had diarreah every couple hours and had bad cramping yesterday but none today just feeling awful all day. Im not sure if this is just a normal part of the end of pregnancy or if something is actually wrong so anyone have any opinions?

I haven't experienced that but could you call your primary doctor and ask them? They might be able to give you a little insight. You could just be sick.

I don't have a primary doctor or I definitely would have!

  • I've read that that can be a sign of the end of a pregnancy, but I would still suggest what PP said and ask your primary doctor

  • I'm pretty nauseous, too, and have eaten very little over the last few days.  I've chalked it up to baby pushing on my stomach and intestines.  I feel like I want to throw up all the time, and my stool is very soft.  Oh-and I've started to burp.  I NEVER burp.  Again, I figure it's just baby growing and pushing and messing with my insides.  But I could be really wrong.  I figure until my water breaks, everything is a guessing game!
  • I'm a FTM, but we were told in our birth class to expect nausea and diarreah towards the end of pregnancy/prior to going into labor, because it's the body clearing out your system, preparing for birth. Based on what we were told, I'd say it's normal, but it might not hurt to check with your Dr. if you're concerned.

  • Are you giving birth in a hospital? If so, I would try calling them. Otherwise, isnt there a back up midwife? or are you using a doula you could call? I would keep trying to get someone on the phone.

Basically, my understanding is that at this point, anything out of the ordinary is worth getting checked out for.

  • I would call the maternity ward and ask them, even if you aren't delivering there.  I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

agreed. at that point in pregnancy you shouldnt be having that many loose stools and not eating. I would try to eat bland and binding foods and make sure you stay hydrated.

I agree. Your body *might* clean out before labor (mine never did), but that doesn't start at 34 weeks. And without accompanying labor signs (contractions, bloody show, etc) I wouldn't assume it's labor, or even pregnancy, related.  Sounds to me like you've got a bug of some sort.

  • Sounds like a stomach virus maybe...seems too soon to be labor preparations (at least I hope for your and your LO's sake!).  Hope you feel better soon!

  • I am almost 39 weeks and I haven't had any of this.  I would make a call, just for reassurance's sake.  If you have insurance, many companies (such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, etc) have a dial-a-nurse feature you can use.  Although calling the hospital/delivery ward seems easier and more practical.

    I hope you feel better!

  • I heard it is common to have nausea and diarrhea within the last few weeks. I also know there is a stomach bug going around, so I hope that isn't the cause. Hope you feel better! :)
