Babies: 3 - 6 Months

First day of daycare tomorrow...

...and I feel sick to my stomach thinking about it. I know we picked a great place and DS is going to be well taken care of, but the thought of him not getting one on one attention all day makes me sad :( I feel like the only stories I hear about DCPs are bad ones, nobody talks about their positive experiences. So on that note...anybody have one they want to share?! I'm hoping someone can make me feel better.

I know how you feel, and it was hard for me to send DS even though he's my second (DD is still at the same day care, too).  It's so hard, but there ARE good day care experiences.  My DD loves to go to "school" and I am amazed by all the great creative activities they do.  She has learned so much and has so much fun there.  She started as an infant and DS is now in the infant room.  I actually spent some time visiting the infant room with both kids while I was still on leave in order to let them get a little acclimated to the place, and this turned out to be a great way to put my mind at ease as well.  The teachers really do pay attention to all of the kids.  Nobody is crying in a corner unattended.  They have helpers they can call in if they need extra hands at feeding time, etc.  It really does all work out, and your LO will be fine!  I was worried about the attention factor and wished with DD that I could have a relative watch her or a nanny or something, but honestly I think day care has been better for her and I wouldn't change a thing.  Hugs to you!  It will all be OK.

  • I love our DCP!  It is a wonderful woman and her daughter (licensed) and they do it out of their home.  DD is the youngest there and they just dote on her all day.  The first week she was there, DD got her first diaper rash and it came on hard and fast...it was really bad.  Our DCP didn't even flinch, she said to bring the corn starch and extra diapers, she was changing DD every hour just in case!  It is like having her grandma look after her every day.

I was a wreck too but DCP encourages random visits/calls so that made me feel so much better!

It will be ok, the first few days are the worst (mostly getting a morning schedule down!) but soon LO will look forward to it!

  • Its normal to have some anxiety..DS has been in DC for 4 weeks and it has been great! The teachers love him, he smiles when we walk in and I know this is their profession and care for these babies. Sure, there are goods and bads with any situation, but I prefer to think of the good things he is experiencing.

He already has done crafts and they spend a lot of one on one time with him....stay involved and ask questions and it will work out well.

  • I love our center, and LO does too! They are amazing with him, and his face lights up when we go into his room. They do such great activities with him, I especially love all of his lil hand and footprint art projects! And I love how socialized he is! I know some babies that flip out if anyone but their mother holds them, but LO is such a happy, social lil guy who goes to anyone with a smile, and I largely credit daycare to that.

  • Don't have any personal experience yet, but just wanted to wish you all the best tomorrow.  I'm sure you've picked a great DCP and everything will be just fine!

  • Ds1(he's 5) loves his daycare/preschool. He runs in happily every am. Even before I had dd he still wanted to go and hug his infant teachers. He's learned lots and socialized well with kids no matter where we are. Dd has only been there 6 days but the teachers love her. I took her to her room first this am then took ds2. Her teacher came to get me to show me something cute she was doing. It was precious.

  • I love DD's DC as well! I was very uneasy at first because I went back to work at 6 weeks. The girls love her and I walk in to pick her up at times and she is cooing and talking to them with a big smile because she is used to seeing them daily. I also love the fact that they have cameras that I can go online and see her.
