C-sections

Glue, stitches or staples?

My friend just had a c section and she only had the glue. I have heard on another post on this board where many women request NO staples because of the healing process. I asked my Dr about this and he said that no one does the glue anymore and he would only do staples and went on and on about how they are better. I have also heard that Dr.'s do staples because it is faster for them. What do you ladies think about this?

Re: Glue, stitches or staples?

  • With my first I had the dissolving stitches. No issues. This time I had staples. My OB said if I have another, she will actually remove the old scar, and use the stitches again because it will look nicer that way. I preferred the stitches but didn't have an issue with recovery either time.

  • I have had staples all 3 times and had no issues. My DH just took a look at my incision for me and said its all healed up at 2 weeks PP. I won't be having any more kids but my scare is small and barely there after 3, in the same place. Thats pretty good.

  • I had staples, and no huge issue with recovery.  I doubt stitches would have made it easier.

I was glued back together and I have hardly any scar other than a light red line with one purple splotch.  I had a TON of complications after my c-section resulting in me staying in the hospital for almost a month and my incision was checked multiple times a day by various drs and nurses.   They kept commenting how good it looked.

  • I am with a new doctor this pregnancy and I specifically asked my doctor how they close the incision and he looked at me as if I were crazy to ask and said sutures. My reply was good, I do not want staples. He was fine with it.
  • Internal stitches and external staples. The staples were removed the day that I was discharged and steri-strips were put on in their place. I healed up pretty well and the scar looks good, I guess, but I have nothing to compare it to. It's smooth and light but nowhere near invisible since I'm a plus sized mommy and have the dreads c-section shelf/overhang.

  • I had internal stitches and staples on the outside...which I didn't realize were there until the next day when I showered.  I about freaked out about, just because I had no idea that they were there.  Anyway, I didn't have a problem with either and the staples were removed the day I was discharged.  I was a little nervous about them taking them out, but it didn't hurt at all, just felt like tweezing your eyebrows.

I had stiches on the inside and steri strips on the outside.  My incision looks great.

This is exactly what I had and there were no issues.

  • I was very afraid of the staples and talked to my doctor a long time about it.  He likes staples because he swore up and down that it healed faster and better.

I listened to him and he was right - I healed very fast, staples were out in less than a week and they didn't bother me at all.  I can't even see my scar now.

Of course I was pissed that he was right Big Smile

glue both times and will ask for it again this time. My skin doesn't do well with stitches or staples so I'm glad my OB will use the glue

  • stitches on the inside and steri strips on the outside..no issues what so ever. I had emergancy surgery 4 weeks after my CS ( not related to CS) and everyone who checked on it commented on how good it looked.
  • Not sure why staples scare the hell out of me.

  • I had staples. They were uncomfortable but everything healed great. I don't know much else besides that.

  • I had staples and had no problems.  They were taken out after 2 days and then I had steri strips.

    Good luck!!

  • I had stitches.  Within a week, my incision looked great.  Just over 2 weeks later and it is pretty much healed.  If I have another c-section, I want stitches again.

  • I had staples both times. The first time the staples were removed before I left the hospital and steri-strips were put on. The second time I was released early so I had to go in to the office a couple days later to have the staples removed and steri-strips applied. I had no issues either time.

  • I was glued. I actually assumed it was staples and didn't find out it was glued shut until they took off the bandage.
