Talking about names yet again...

DH and I have found a new name we really love; it's Selah (pronounced "say-luh").  How weird is the sibset Lyla and Selah?  They don't exactly rhyme but are pretty matchy.  Too much?

  • I like that name, actually.  I don't think they go well together - too matchy matchy.

  • The name Selah is really pretty but I do think it's a bit matchy with Lyla. But I wouldn't let that be the dealbreaker. Just walk around calling "Lyla! Selah!" and see if you can do it a few times without getting tongue-twisted and if not then you're good. ;)

  • I love the name Selah! It was my host sister's name when I studied abroad.

Since the consonant and vowel of the first syllable are pretty different, I don't think they're too matchy-matchy.

It's not like Sarah & Selah or Lyla and Twyla or something obnoxious like that.

  • I too wouldn't let the matchy matchy stop you. If you both like the name, then go for it. =)

I don't think I ever heard Selah before, I think it is pretty. I also agree that it is a little matchy match. I would try saying the names together out loud a few times and also have your dh listen to see how it sounds. If you really like the name then just go for it

I like names that compliment eachother, so I say go for it.
  • Ahh, such mixed reviews!  Kind of how we felt about it.  I did the "say it aloud" test a few times for DH.  I think it's a little too matchy; he doesn't think it's a big deal.  So I guess we're 50/50.  Good thing we still have another 20 weeks to figure this out! Smile

  • I like it. I agree it is a bit matchy, but if you like it - that's all that matters!

  • Too matchy matchy for my tastes.  My sister and I have very similar names that start with the same letter and end with the same "-nah" sound.  My mom gets our names mixed up ALL. THE. TIME.  But at least Lyla and Selah don't start with the same letter/sound.

  • I LOVE the name Selah. A friend of ours was dead set on naming their 4th girl (5th child) that they are pregnant with now Selah but after a few weeks of calling her that, they decided it just didn't feel right so they changed the name.

Just walk around calling the baby Selah and talk to Lyla about Selah (ok typing that out does make the names sound matchy lol) and see if you can deal with it and if you like the names together. Like you said, you still have 20 weeks Smile
