Holding own bottle (pip)

DS is EBF so he usually only gets bottles at DC. Well since he's been on antibiotics I give him 2 small bottles mixed with his antibiotic. Yesterday when I put the bottle in his mouth he wrapped his hands around the bottle and pulled away from me. In my head he was saying "I got this mom". I was so surprised to see him doing this but figured he had already been doing it at daycare. Well his teacher told me today that she saw him hold his bottle for the first time. She couldn't believe that he's doing it at 5 1/2 months. Any others holding their own bottle like my Mr. Independent?

  • DS tries, it usually ends with milk everywhere but his mouth.

  • Aww so cute!!

Emily can hold her own bottle. I love it!! Now when we are out I just give her a bottle in her stroller and she feeds herself.

  • Thats pretty cute! DS tries now and then when he gets a pumped bottle (so not very often) and it usually ends up in hes eyes lol.

  • Yep, and I didn't know it either. I came home one day and dh was giving him a bottle and I was like "what!?" I EBF when I am around, so I'd never seen him do that.

Yep, Alex has done this before. I also introduced the sippy cup (with water) a couple of weeks ago though, so I assume that he learned it from that?!

  • That's so cute! DS tried the sippy cup (with water) for the first time today and I was amazed he knew what to do with it - he's taken medicine from a cup once and that's it beyond BFing. It's still a little too heavy for him so the spout kept drifting below his mouth when his hands got tired, lol.

DS tries all the time but isn't strong enough to hold it himself yet.  He's also always trying to sneak a thumb in with his bottle which is very funny.  Lately I've been having to pin his arms down to keep him from playing with his food.

  • Yep, my little man has been practicing this for a few weeks now.  It actually makes me sad because I feel like he is growing up too fast!  Luckily he won't do it when he is sleepy so I still get to do it during these feedings.
