I really want to order something cute off Etsy for baby's "going home" outfit but am clueless on what type of clothes to order. Virginia can still be and most likely will be really hot when I deliver (EDD is Sep. 6) so will a newborn need a little beanie then or no? I'm obsessed with the little crochet booties too but I don't want my little man to be sweating up a storm. Thoughts? I know I sound super ignorant for not knowing this.

You don't sound ignorant -- it's not an easy choice, IMO.
You'll still want a beanie and feet coverings for inside the hospitals. They're cold places and newborns can't regulate.
Leaving the hospital, you could still do a cotton beanie.
The biggest thing is making sure you don't get any of the sleeper style things that don't have legs. Can't strap them into the carseat with those.
I would do a cotton pant and onesie/kimono top and no shoes, but that's me.

Ok, call me dumb but this is completely baffling me. How does one strap a swaddled baby into a carseat?
Even if you bring him home on the hottest day of the year or the coldest day of the year, he'll spend a whopping 6.3 seconds exposed to the elements.
Youre going from an air conditioned hospital to an air conditioned car into an air conditioned house.
You will probably want a hat and foot cover, along with a light blanket.
