4th birthday- Video Game ?

DS loves playing Mario Brothers on his cousins Wii. His birthday is coming up and I am half way contemplating getting him some type of video game. We were going to get him a bike but Grandma wanted to so now we are left to figure something out. My question is this, Should we get him a Nintendo ds or a Wii. I feel with the Wii at least we can play along with him but the ds is portable for travel.

Do your kids have either?

We bought him the Leapster Explorer but he's just not into it like he is with our ipad and the wii. I need help I guess.

    We have the Wii, but we got it b4 DS was even born, but he loves it.  He especially loves to play SUper Mario Bros.

    My 4y.o. loves the Wii. He plays Wii resort, Wii sports, and Mario kart very well. He has been playing since he was 3.

    We have a Wii - Madi has her own Grover game on it that she loves!! We also play mario kart together.

    She isn't quite "good" at it yet, but she is also only 4 so I cut her slack ;P

    My kids both have iPods and honestly, I was not thrilled when they got them from the ILs but they are great.  We have mostly educational games on them but some fun ones as well and we have movies on them.  We limited when they can be used and all of that and honestly, they are not used all that much other than when we travel or if we have some dinners that we are no are going to require a long wait time and we have used up all other activities to keep them busy.  I would save the Wii or any other game consoles like that for family gifts.

    We got our son an XBOX 360 for Christmas along with the Kinect and he loves it! He plays the Lego games and they are usually easier than other games. We got the Kinect because he wanted the Disneyland game and I even enjoy playing that one! He also has a PSP and we love it when we travel, there's just not a ton of games for kids his age.
