Where do you buy your clothes?

When I worked most of my fashion was based around work clothes. Now money is tight but none of my clothes fit. Any favorite stores or styles?

Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft, Gap, Anthropologie, Boden, department stores like Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor, and stores like Loehmann's, Century 21, Marshall's, etc.

We have pretty limited shopping options in my town, so I usually just stick to The Gap and Macys. But recently I spent a day in the city (San Francisco) shopping at little boutiques and came home with a bunch of new clothes.

As for styles I live in jeans, usually boot cut Citizens of Humanity or Hudsons, but just got my first pair of skinnys. Most of my tops right now are billowy and/ or boxy because I still have a tummy from this last pregnancy. I've also learned that prints hide baby spit-up better than solid colors!

Also, I'd rather have fewer good quality clothes than more junky ones that never fit well.

I'm just finally learning this!

I have finally been at a steady weight for about a year now, so I have been letting myself buy some new clothes. I mostly go to Gap, LOFT, the sale rack at Banana Republic, the Banana Republic outlet and sometimes Marshalls/ TJ Maxx (but sometimes I don't have the time or patience to look through their racks).

I try to shop at stores near me, since I live in the sticks, so usually it's Old Navy, Target, Kohl's, NY & Co (although they are closing), or an occasional trip to the outlet mall, 45 mins away.

This is my mantra too, I shop quality over price. I also find that my pricer clothes fit better and last longer. It makes sense to me to pay a higher price up front for clothes that not only look better but are better quality. I shop at loft, banana, and the like. I stay away from old navy as I hate their quality.

Old Navy for sure - affordable but great clothes. That's it actually... I mean, I go other places, but old navy is the only one i can count on.

Lately I can only find jeans that fit me nicely at American Eagle. I've found some tops at Target that I like (basic colored tees) and a few summer dresses at Old Navy. I also like Banana Republic and AT Loft, but haven't been there in a long time.

I try shopping in stores like Macys, Forever 21, H&M, etc but the size of the stores are intimidating and I am never sure if the styles are either "too young" or "too professional" for my lifestyle. I prefer smaller stores with less options!

Thrift and consignment stores mostly. I can get high quality for much cheaper that way.

Also, JCP, Old Navy, and Walmart (tees and tanks and underwear mostly but occasional other items). Used to shop Kohl's a lot.

I bleed Ann Taylor LOFT, I really love the quality of their clothes, their pants & jeans fit "women's" bodies (not stick-figured teenagers with no curves who don't care if their butt crack shows when they bend down!), and when they have a sale you can get so many great pieces to add to your wardrobe for a long time!

I mostly stick to couture denim at Neiman and Nordstrom's because the fit and quality just can't be beat (though they are really pricey!) but have fallen in-love with Gap's 1969 line of jeans, all the cuts & shapes are really flattering, as well as their perfect fit khakis.

Other favorites include WhiteHouseBlackMarket, Lilly Pulitzer, JCrew, and Target. I'm a big fan of trying things on that I love in all my favorite stores and then, watching their websites/emails for sales and ordering the things I know my size in and that I've tried on online! Great way to save some money and be sure things will fit.

Aside from the ones listed above, I've also been really liking Lands End lately. I've gotten some really great basics for this summer (including a couple really cute dresses), and if you're signed up for their emails and catalogs you can generally get some good coupons and promo codes. Also gotten some good basic tops from Eddie Bauer because they carry long/tall sizes online.

Old Navy, JCP, Target, Kohls and sometimes Macy's. I always get coupons for Kohls and Old Navy. If you ever shop online for any of these (especially ON...do a google search for promo codes- sometimes they can save you an additional 25%or more.)

Is it just me, or has Old Navy really taken a nosedive? I used to get basics from there, but the last few times I went in, everything looked so cheap and flimsy. Their pants also aren't cut for my body type. The sizing is off compared to other brands and they are loose in some areas and tight in others - very weird. I mean, I know different brands size differently, but their sizing and fit seem very strange

Target and Old Navy. Sometimes Victoria's Secret.

My size keeps changing so I stick to cheap stuff right now since nothing fits for more than a month or two. That way I don't feel guilty about putting almost brand new stuff in donation bags for goodwill. My priority at this point is not quality.

I like to buy clothes based on what I am doing. For example, I buy workout clothes a lot since I go to the gym 4x a week, I love lululemon, lucy, nike, and gap body for this! I then like to have some shorts or sundresses on hand for just hanging out with the kids, H & M, old navy, gap, ann taylor loft, lucky. Then there is the going out on a date night clothes....those clothes I tend to get at limited, department stores, lucky, h & m...

Their clothing is awful. I will get some of their basic T's and tanks to "jazz up" (like this link: https://tearosehome.blogspot.com/2010/01/tutorialruffle-shirt.html) but otherwise don't bother.

I like quality clothing over quantity. I do like to get some trendy stuff, but I stick to basics and I don't mind paying for them, even full price. I take good care of my clothing and it lasts.

Don't get me wrong, I have nice things to wear when I'm not around baby, but that is pretty much never so I stick with some less expensive basics

I agreE with this, and for me financially it makes a lot more sense to spend the money upfront, then buying crap quality that you will have to replace. Also as a mom of two kids I have NEVER had anything of mine or theirs ruined by spit up or poop. DD puked all the time and both of my kids had numerous blow outs we have never had things ruined.

Anywhere and everywhere. Though I personally hate Forever21. Everytime I buy something there it falls apart within a week. It's good place if your looking for trendy pieces but other then that..nope.

Target is my go to place when I am looking to save some money. Their basic tees are my favorite. Another cheap place I love is tj maxx.

Some good ideas here. I like anthropology, barneys outlet, some boutiques around here, Ann Taylor, black-white, and I admit to buying stuff from old navy and usually regretting it because it falls apart and doesn't fit me very well except for those rare pieces.

Hmm I have never heard of an adult having play clothing, kids sure, but never an adult. What would adult play clothing look like? I am sure everyone has clothes they wear to do dirty jobs like yard work and such, but that was not what this post was about. I just don't understand the whole I don't buy nice clothes for myself because a baby will spit up/poop on it and it will be ruined.

And that's great if you like to buy a bunch of expensive clothes. Kudos to you. Some of us don't. Kudos to us. The OP specifically said money is tight. Personally, if money is tight, the last thing I'm going to do is drop $50+ on a shirt or $150+ on a pair of jeans. If something doesn't fit bc I lost/gained weight and I'm on a tight budget, I'll go buy one cheap pair that will work for the time being, or make due with what I have. When we have some extra dough, sure, I'll go splurge and by myself some nice clothes. But the majority of the time I am on the floor playing with DD or at the park. I get something on my clothes everyday. I'm not going to wear expensive clothing everyday. It does not make sense to me. If it does to you, great.
