NBR: Phentermine anyone have experience?

My dr just gave me an RX for phentermine.  I dont know much about it, except its a boost for weight loss i guess?  I have been trying to lose weight since LO was a month old and have lost about 50 pounds ( i have talked about this before).  I have been working with my doctor and trainers etc while on this journey.  Well, i have been struggling with a 6 month plateau.  I havent lost anything in 6 months and it has been so frustrating.  I have been following my diet appropriately and working out 3-5 times a week and NOTHING!!  He gave me the RX and said that i take it for 3 months while continuing my work out plan and eating properly, then after the 3 months i continue with diet/exercise to maintain that weight.  he said that bc i have already lost a significant amount and dont have much to lose in comparison, that it will be a struggle for me.  So he wants me to do this.

Does anyone have experience?  Suggestions or advice welcome as well as your story:)

  • Guess this is like a FFFC - but yes I have convinced a doctor to give this RX to me when I really didnt need it.  But my experience is that it suppressed my appetite completely and I had to force myself to eat.  The weight dropped off very quickly.  Granted I didnt have much to loose but I lost and didnt exercise or eat properly.  I think if you follow your doctors instructions you will see great results but wouldnt recommend for long term use.

  • I think often when people plateau it is become their exercise routine has stale.  They do the same thing every day with no variation, no change in intensity, no increase in weight/resistance/etc. (hello...I'm totally guilty of this).  Before starting a medication for weight loss (I will be honest, they scare me) I would try changing up your exercise program.  When you workout now, do you even feel like you are exerting yourself at all?  Maybe enlist the assitance of a personal trainer for a few sessions.

I'm on it now and I've taken it twice in the past. It's very helpful in curbing my cravings and making it so that I'm happy with eating whatever, instead of going for what I REALLY want to eat lol. I agree with Sunidaze though that, typically when someone plateaus, it's because they need to change it up a bit. The phentermine will help but what you should do is try mixing up your calorie intake. So, if you normally shoot for 1300 or 1400 every single day, change it up to 1600-1700 Mon/Tue, 1500-1600 Wed/Thu, then 1300-1400 Fri-Sun. Doing so keeps your body guessing and prevents it from getting accustomed to a certain amount of food. Additionally, mix up your work out routine. Don't do circuit training every time, do like upper body one day, then lower body the next, then cardio the next, etc.

  • he gave me the rx for only 3 months, so no worries Bout longtime use!my  workout routine does change day to day. i do a mix of different cardio activities and strngth training. i do work with a trainer and have been working witb my doctor regarding diet etc. i think thats why he gave me the rx bc i have done all the recommended things and itas not working.  i have never heard of doing the misc calorie amounts throughout the week tho! i should look into it   thanks for your stirie, i really had never even heard of such a pill before yesterday!
