Tacky?

We are having a swim party for her birthday and on a very tight budget. It's going to be a pool party from 2:30p to 5:30. Is it tacky just to serve snacks and cake?

Re: Tacky?

  • I don't think so at all. If everyone's going to be swimming anyway and it's not during lunch or dinner times I see no issue.

  • No I would make sure to say that snacks are provided on the invitation that way people know to eat before hand.

  • Not tacky, sounds like perfect pool food.

I agree with PPs. It's totally fine. I would put it on the invitation "please join us for cake and snacks", so that no one is coming on an empty stomach expecting food. I would also probably move the time up. Can you do it from 2-5 or 1:30-4:30? 5:30 is pushing close to dinner time.

  • What do you mean by "snacks" something like chips, or will there be small finger foods?  I think 3 hours is a long party for just chips and drinks

Meatball sandwiches I think are always an easy and quick option. Buy frozen meatballs, jars of sauce, put in the crockpot and WA-LA! Buy rolls and shredded mozz.

Hot dogs are definitely easy and good too, if you have access to a grill. Add pasta salad for a side and maybe a regular salad.

Do you have a BJ's or costco? I've done the mini hot dogs with crescent rolls, or ham or turkey w/ cheese sandwiches on mini rolls. Mac and cheese is always good or ziti (and cheap) if you have a bunch of kids.  We never spend a lot on food because we just make everything ourselves rather than buying premade.

  • I think it's fine, although I agree that it's cutting it close to dinner time.
