Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby sunglasses?

A necessity, or silly?  My 10 mo old squints outside a lot, even when she's got her little brimmed sunhat on.  We love to spend time outside though, and I hope to spend a lot of time at the pool, in addition to a week long beach trip this summer so wondering if I should get some.

Do you have them?  Do they actually stay on their faces (ie, she always tries to pull her hat off, I'm sure she'd hate glasses on her face too).  Any recommended brands, or features to look for?  TIA!

Re: Baby sunglasses?

  • I don't have any, but I think they're more of an accessory than a necessity. I believe they make them with a strap that holds them on their head, but I know for sure my LO would rip them right off.

    These are super cute:  https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Banz-Retro-Sunglasses-Arctic/dp/B00149YRB4/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1337707342&sr=1-2

and I kind of want to order them anyway, even though I know she'll never keep them on.

Oh, man! These are so cute. I ordered them and put them in DD's Easter basket. She REFUSES to wear them. I think what she hates about them is the band (which is what I was so excited about), because she is always trying to put my sunglasses on.

As far as them being necessary...probably not, just a convenience if your kid'll keep 'em on!

  • I have a pair that I got from Babies R Us that have a Velcro strap that goes around the head to keep them up. I have put them on my LO a few times... she doesn't like them. But I am going to try them over and over until she gets used to them. I think its a good idea at the beach or in bright sun.

  • I got some for DD after she kept stealing mine. Some days she doesn't want to wear them, some days she happily wears them. If she doesn't seem in to it, I don't push it. But when she does wear them, she gets a cute little smile on her face. You can tell she thinks she looks cool.

  • We just got a pair.  Our daughter usually leaves them on... but as soon as we go inside or a shady area she is happy to play with them.

  • Someone bought them for us as part of a shower gift when I was pregnant.  Our LO has very light blue eyes and he hates the sun in his eyes.  I never thought we would use them, but we've been using them for months and when DS keeps them on, they are great.

  • When I visited the eye doctor she explained it is actually important not to let the sun hit LO's eyes. It is just as bad for them as it is for us. We have sunglasses for our LO and when he does not want to wear them we will trade off to a hat that covers over and gives a shady area for his eyes. Just a tip. Cool

Our eye doctor also encouraged us to use them if the LOs will keep them on.  DS won't leave the ones on without the strap and has a very large "bump" at the back of his head (which he gets from my DH's side of the family) so the ones with a strap don't work.  We will stick with wide-brimmed hats for now.

  • Z has like 3 pairs of super cute ones from Children's Place, but she won't keep them on, so I just ordered her a pair of Baby Banz. Hopefully she'll leave these ones on since the strap goes around her whole head.

DD has a pair of Baby Banz.  They'd be great if she'd keep them on.  She just hit the stage where she refuses to wear hairbows or keep anything on her head.

  • My DD loves them. She hates squinting, and keeps them on her face for sure. We got a few pairs at BRU for only $3 each, and it is definitely worth it for us!

I want to get some for LO this summer.  WHile I do have a nice pair of sunglasses, I get them mainly for the benefit of my eyes first. UV rays are harmful to your eyes as well, so sunglasses are a way to keep them healthy. :) As long as you buy ones that have that protection...they aren't silly at all.

  • Children's place has them on sale for $2 with an additional 20% off on the website or in store. They come in ages, which is nice. Smallest is 0-2. :)

We got ours at Target, but they run $8 there.
