DD's birthday falls during our family fishing trip. It'll be us, my parents, my brother, SIL, and 2 nieces, along with my favourite cousin and his wife and kids.
I figure since the fam will be there and it will be her actual birthday, we might as well have a small party there and then a big party with our friends later (side note: we also had 2 parties for DD1. That way, my parents were able to actually spend time with her on her big day - they live 2 hours away). We'll be out at a cabin in the woods with no electricity, so this would definitely not be anything elaborate.
Anyhoo, I thought it would be funny to get a few fishing-themed accessories for her birthday. I was thinking fish shaped party hats, getting the kids toy fishing poles as favours, maybe even try to find a fish-shaped cake pan
When I brought this up with the hubs, he gave me a "girl you done gone crazy look" (especially after I mentioned the fish hats).
"Fish" is definitely not a theme I would have thought about for a first birthday party, but it only seems fitting under the circumstances... Sooooo... what do you all think?
Re: Birthday idea: yay or nay?
Cute idea if you don't want to make a cake

I absolutely LOVE the idea! I was actually trying to think of a way to skip a big first bday party and get our immediate families to go to my ILs mountain house for the weekend instead, and do fishing and outdoorsy stuff - very much like what you have described! DD loves the outdoors, but hates big crowds, so I'm feeling a bday party would be more stressful for her and I than anything else. But agree with what was already said, that there would be no need to go crazy on the party at home since you are already having a small celebration with immediate family. I say go for it!
This!!
They make them in different colors now !
I think this is a cute idea!!
