Re-occuring ear infections

anyone have this issue with their LO?  it's so frustrating and heartbreaking when your child is alway sick and w/ fevers.

my dh is taking my LO to dr today.  who knows? maybe in future, he'll need tubes.

 i'm hangin in there...

After 7 years of marriage and 5 unsuccessful IVFs, we have been granted the gift of adopting a baby boy, born 4/21/11.

  • My DD has had 5 ear infections since February.  We have an ENT consult set up for next week and hopefully she'll be a good candidate for tubes.  It is so hard to see her in pain and very hard to take off work so frequently when she's constantly needing to go back to the doctor.  :(  Hoping tubes help!

good luck to you!  keep us posted.  my LO is at the dr now with my dh. we'll see what they say.

yes! it's so hard to see them suffer. mine gets mostly fussy during fevers. and, taking time off from work is so challenging.

  • DD had quite a few ear infections as a baby and last year, to the point where we were discussing tubes.  However, it has gotten much better than it was, with only two since last fall (which I think is not bad for a daycare toddler).  And she stopped getting ear infections every single time she got a cold.  So maybe she's growing out of it?  Either way, I hope you find a solution that works for your DS; I know it's hard to see your LO sick.

Tubes are IT on a stick...we love them.

I've asked our ENT just to come to the hospital when I have our next baby (knock on wood) and put them in right after they do my c-section ;-)

  • Between Christmas last year and early May of this year he had had 3 ear infections -that 3 in a little of over 4 months.  Last week we went to an ENT and next week he is getting tubes put in.  Hoping this is the answer.  I also have to mention that prior to starting daycare at 22 months of age in December, he had never even had a fever, much less any virus or infection.  We expected him to get sick every now and then and we know building the antibodies is good for him, but this frequency of ear infections in such little time span has been crazy.  As well, he is speech delayed and with the fluid in his ears that has basically been present for 5 months, his hearing has been effected - both tests he has done have shown this :(  Looking forward to vast improvements as a result of getting the tubes in.

  • I have read that chiropractic care can help with ear infections in small children.  Before going the tubes route, maybe check around to see if you can find a chiro who specializes in infant/child care to see if that works first.
