Hey everyone! I haven't been around too much lately. Now that I stay at home with Avery, I find myself really busy doing all the things I have been "putting off" until I found more time. We have been really enjoying ourselves. Now I just can't wait until my oldest DD is out of school for the summer and we can start sleeping in some.
Now that we are right here at a year I wanted to see how everyone was doing.
How is the pumping going?
How many times are you pumping a day?
Are you having to supplement?
When do you plan to bottle wean?
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed?
Want to add anything?
Re: EP'ers & Pumpers Non-Clicky Poll
How is the pumping going? It is going well. I can not believe that I have been an ep'er for almost a year. I remember when I first started and it was all so hard and overwhelming. I didn't know if I had the will power to make it to 3 months. But then I hit the 3 month mark and then the 6 month and now I am at a year. And I am so proud of myself for finding it deep within me to do this for Avery.
How many times are you pumping a day? 3 times a day (7 am, 2p, 9 or 10 p). I think that tomorrow I am going to go ahead and drop to two pumps a day. I am getting around 35 - 37 oz a day right now and I am hoping that if I can drop to two sessions I can still get about 24oz a day. We will see. I have about 300 oz in my stash.
Are you having to supplement? None. I am proud to say that Avery has had nothing but breast milk, no formula ever. (Please don't think I am saying formula is bad. It was just a personal goal of mine before she was ever born to try and never have to buy or use it)
When do you plan to bottle wean? Between now and 18 months. I have been really pushing the sippy cup this week. She seems to like either.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? I still plan on being totally weaned from the pump by 14 months. I would love to be able to provide some BM until 18 months, even if it is mixed with WCM.
Want to add anything?
I want to say congrats to all the moms who at least tried to BF, either from the tap or by Ep'ing. It has been a very hard, emotional, and rewarding journey for me. As I said up there, I didn't think I would make it a year ago to this point I am at now. I am a little sad for it all to be ending. More sad that my baby is growing up.
How is the pumping going? Meh..I'm over it and I'm coming up a couple oz short each work day. Also, I got walked in on today, by an entire band class. I am in a trailer at the school I work at, and I guess the band trailer was locked, and it was raining. So, they all just decided to come to my trailer. Should have locked my door, I guess. At least I was covered.
How many times are you pumping a day? 2x/day on the days that I work (11am and 2:30pm).
Are you having to supplement? No, but will very soon. I'm barely making it. Only about 30oz left in my stash. I'll start supplementing with WCM in a couple weeks.
When do you plan to bottle wean? We're experimenting with different cups...he's doing pretty well, I just need to see if he'll take the quantity he needs from a cup.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? I might drop to 1 pump after a year. I am off for the school year June 20th, and will continue morning, nap and night BF if he wants it, and will start using sippy/straw more often soon.
Has this goal changed? No..goal was a year, and we're almost there. I do think my decision to continue until he self-weans AM/Nap/PM feeds is a change since I figure we'll do that beyond a year.
How is the pumping going? Going ok, wish it was a little better
How many times are you pumping a day? 2-3
Are you having to supplement? We are starting to wean to almond milk
When do you plan to bottle wean? once we are all on almond milk (hopefully 1 year) we will ditch the bottles, LO already knows how to use a sippy
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? (see above) LO only nurses in the morning and if we are out of the house (I have no interest in carrying around bottles!)
Want to add anything? I can't believe I made it this long, and I'm so excited for everyone who has made it too!
How is the pumping going? Good
How many times are you pumping a day? 4-5
Are you having to supplement? Nope and I hope it stays that way till the end
When do you plan to bottle wean? I am trying different sippy cups/straw cups, but until he starts eating more "real food" I am going to continue to pump.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? When he starts eating better and drinking less milk. I planned on stopping at 1 year, but it looks like it is gonna be longer than that.
Want to add anything? My LO needs to eat more real food. He ate his first cherrio the other day with out gagging. I guess he has a sensitive gag reflex. Once he eats 3 meals a day, I will start to wean. I can't wait, I am soooo sick of pumping.
Congrats to all of us still pumping or breast feeding. Way to go ladies!!
Pumping twice a day now. So tempted to go down to one, but I'm afraid my supply will drop so much it won't be worth it to pump at all.
Right now my goal is to get her to one year no supplementing any other kind milk. So bm only. Then, we'll start adding WCM to her diet.
Ideally, I'd like to complete rid her use of the bottle very, very soon. As in yesterday! She likes throwing her milk around to much and turning it upside down to watch it drip from the bottle. I hate seeing that precious breast milk go to waste. We're working on the sippy cup. She still doesn't love it.
If I'm lucky, I will be able to provide at least some bm a few weeks into her second year of life. lol
My original, original goal was 1 year. Then, when pumping was easy, I was producing a ton, and my nipples weren't torn to shreds, I said I go to 18 months. Now, I'm satisfied with a year again.
How is the pumping going? Pretty well, I'm back to making more than he uses some days. Most days we are even.
How many times are you pumping a day? Once at work, once before bed.
Are you having to supplement? No
When do you plan to bottle wean? He'll get milk in a sippy after his birthday. He'll get cows milk when the BM is gone... I'll stop daily pumping at one year, probably only do a short bit as needed for comfort.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? Will wean from nursing when he's with me: whenever he wants, or if I get pregnant again. One year of BM was always the goal. I feel relieved to have made it so far!
How many times are you pumping a day? generally twice. I nurse him the rest of the time
Are you having to supplement? nope
When do you plan to bottle wean? right after he turns 1
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? Not sure about weaning from the breast but the pump is going out the window when he turns one
How is the pumping going? Slowly here too. I now have to pump longer to get the same amount of milk. But a couple of weeks ago she started eating less, so now I'm making more than she eats, so the pressure is off and I can pump a little less long and less often than I was.
How many times are you pumping a day? Usually three times a day at work, though now that I'm cutting back a little bit sometimes only twice. Are you having to supplement? No.
When do you plan to bottle wean? We're trying to give her the sippy more regularly. Hopefully between 12-14 months we'll get her off the bottle and onto the sippy.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? I'd like to drop pumping at work by 15 months. I'm fine continuing nursing her in the morning and evening until 18 months or so, maybe 24 months if she didn't self-wean before then. This is longer than I originally anticipated. My goal was making it to a year and I would have been pretty pleased about even 6 months. So I'm really proud we've made it this far. She loves nursing, and it does help to calm and focus her, so I'm not in a huge hurry to be done with it. It's a nice trick to have up my sleeve!
I have officially broken up with my pump, woohoo!!! I had dropped from 2 sessions to 1 a few weeks ago, then I was pushing back that 1 session later & later each day at work with the intention of dropping it altogether this week. BUT, I got a horrible stomach flu Mother's Day weekend, and the only good thing to come about from that disaster was that it dried up a lot of my supply, so I didn't end up having to pump anymore.
I'm still nursing him in the morning and before bed, but he's dropped all of his bottles at school as of this week. (he turned a year on 5/17) I am also very happy to be done with bottles altogether! I won't miss that step in our evening routine every night.
At this point, he's still getting breastmilk in a sippy cup, I'm trying to use up my freezer supply. Eventually, we'll start mixing whole milk into that, then wean down to just the whole milk when I run out of freezer stash.

How is the pumping going? It's going. I'm tired of it. I'm not getting as much as she drinks, but I have plenty frozen yet, so I don't mind.
How many times are you pumping a day? Only twice.
Are you having to supplement? Just with frozen milk.
When do you plan to bottle wean? I haven't thought about it much yet.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? Not really. I'll have to pump at least once a day as long as she's nursing, since I work during her bedtime bottle. I'll let her breastfeed as long as she's interested.
Want to add anything? I certainly got my money's worth out of this stupid pump!
How is the pumping going? I stopped pumping three weeks ago now.
How many times are you pumping a day? none.
Are you having to supplement? I have plenty of frozen milk that I mix with whole milk not to supplement, but rather to introduce to cow milk.
When do you plan to bottle wean? stopped using a bottle this week.
When are you thinking of weaning either from the breast or pump for us Ep'ers? Has this goal changed? I have followed through with my goal. I will be dropping my last nursing session on Sunday
Want to add anything? I had major over supply in the beginning. I was able to donate some milk and I had an entire chest freezer full. I started cutting back on pumpings April 30th... dropped a session each week and now dropping the nursing sessions.. No issues yet, thankfully!
