waxing? shaving? au natural?

Hi ladies...as my due date is approaching I am wondering what to do. I had a bikini wax done at week 28 and it hurt badly. I am a FTM, so any moms who have already given birth, what should I do? Will I be shaved at the hospital if I don't take care of business before hand?

Re: waxing? shaving? au natural?

  • I think they only shave you if you have a c-section done. I say do whatever makes you comfortable. I personally didn't want a forest going on down there so I got waxed at 30 weeks and again at 36 weeks.

  • The Dr's and nurses have seen it all, so do whatever will make you feel most at ease. I use an electric razor to keep things trim and neat, but waxing just hurts too much at this point.
  • I think it's a personal decision. I'm not a STM...but I will be keeping things at least semi-clean. That's just what I'm comfortable with. & it's only because that's what I want. I don't care what they think.

  • I used my DHs electric trimmer to shave the whole are down to a level 1. Then I used my razor to tame back the edges.

  • They will not shave you. I always keep things tame by shaving. I hate waxing and would not do it while pg.

Honestly, you wont care about how things are down there. Neither will anyone else, with everything that happens down there while giving birth no one will say "OMG so and so didnt shave! gasp!" ;)

  • No way am I waxing (ouch!) or shaving (itchy!). I just keep it trimmed for sanitary reasons, but not for the doctors and nurses. There is so much blood and body fluids coming out during labor that pubic hair will not be an issue.

This.  There are a million other things to be concerned with....this shouldn't really be one of them.

Agree, totally. All you'll care about is getting baby out at that point.

Do what you're comfortable with. If you want to wax again, do it. If you just trim with an electric razor, that's cool too. If you dont care at this point and let things go, great! They wont shave you in the hospital (they used to do that to "prevent infection", only to realize it introduced more infection, so it's not done anymore), and, as PPs have said, doctors and nurses have seen it all.

  • I shave and do a horrible job at it!

  • I've been on strict bed rest for preterm labor for the pat 4 weeks so I feel victorious if I can get my legs shaved.  I was wondering the same thing though.  I can barely pee in a cup much less trim, so most likely it will be au natural for me.  It stresses me out a little but I just try not to think about it. :(
  • I shave, every day, though I can't really see what I'm shaving. ha, ha! It's pretty funny. I FEEL my way to smoothness. It's time consuming, but I don't want to go into labor all hairy. Yuck!
  • I'm also a FTM and have been trying to keep it short down yonder with an electric trimmer - from what I've heard, it's best to have it short to keep the lochia and clumps from getting stuck in the hair after birth. Last week I trimmed for what I believe will be the last time..  lol I knicked myself pretty good multiple times because I was trying to use a mirror - I couldn't see over my bump! It doesn't look the best but I'm sure my OB has seen worse!

  • I'm 37 weeks pregnant and it's hard to shave but I still do it.  I learned from when I waited to long b4 my 1st born was here and had to do extra cleaning from the extra hair down there. It takes a while but hey if your comfortable then go ahead. I have to feel my way around down there lol cuz my bump is huge now. lol Plus the hospital staff will not care how much hair is down there.

  • I have been waxing and trimming, it is just trickier because visibility is gone. I will probably wax in the next couple of weeks just for hygiene's sake, not because I care about looks.
