Unnecessarily worried about GBS test

I have my OB appointment today to get checked for GBS.  At this point, there's nothing I can do about it one way or the other.  So why am I so worried?

Re: Unnecessarily worried about GBS test

  • Because you're pregnant, and that's what we do. I seriously find myself worrying about things that are far out of my control or are pointless. I try not to, but it doesn't always work. Can we blame it on hormones?

  • Don't worry, it's unnecessary! It's really not that big of a deal.  Either way you and baby will be fine, that's the point of checking for it. :)

  • I get the concern.  Even though its crazy common, many women still feel like it represents uncleanliness even though its got nada to do how clean you are.  Plus, no one really wants to have to be hooked up to an IV and given doses of antibiotics!  I'm GBS + and every time it comes up I feel like I have to justify it, mainly to non-pregnant friends and family.  Still, it is what it is!

I understand. I am worried about getting my results back. I just want my labor to be as easy as possible. I don't like the idea of rushing to the hospital if my water breaks, being hooked up to an IV, and the fear of an infection hurting my child. We are mom's and between the hormones and our motherly instincts we can't help but worry! Like you said though, there is nothing you can do about it. Just try to think positively!

  • It really is nothing to worry about. I was GBS+ with my first and it turns out I'm still GBS+ with this baby too. With DD, we rushed to the hospital because I was terrified of not getting the antibiotics in time. Turns out, we had PLENTY of time as DD took her time about arriving. I was never hooked up to the IV for long. They put the needle in my hand and would hook me up while it was being administered (about 30 min) and then unhook me so I could walk around, change positions and pretty much labor naturally. DD was born perfectly healthy and despite all the antibiotics I had during labor plus the double dose I had postpartum for mastitis, she's barely ever sick. :)
