I was video chatting with my mom the other day and she made a comment about how DH and I kiss DS on the lips. She apparently thinks its the most disgusting thing, and made sure I knew it. So it got me thinking, how many of us kiss our babies on the lips? Why or why not?
Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Obviously once he gets a bit older it would be weird for him so I wouldn't, and I don't kiss him on the lips when I'm sick or what not. But I really don't see the harm, he's my child and I'm only going to be able to kiss and love on him for so long before he doesn't want my attention.
Thoughts ladies?

This! He gets plenty of kisses all over the rest of his face, though.

This.
I kiss him on the lips. My family always kissed on the lips, and I never really thought it was weird.
My husband doesn't kiss him on the lips though he remembers his parents doing it too. I think he avoids it because he doesn't want to get slobbered on!
This is us too. I always thought it was the opposite thing though, it always seemed to me like the older generations were the ones to kiss babies on the lips. I don't have a problem with it but DS is way too slobbery so I just kiss his cheeks a lot!
This... and I guess I'm weird because I love the slobbery/drool kiss... I figure it's only going to last for so long. DS will grab my face if I stick my lips out in a pucker and totally open mouth drool kiss me...aannnnndddd I love it
haha
ps. I am also totally paranoid about kissing him on his ears after reading an article about a guy whose ear drum was blown out by someone kissing him on the ear as a baby-- the mouth made a seal on the ear and I guess the suction of the kiss blew his ear drum? craziness.
I agree with no ear kissing. As a kid, I hated when my parents would kiss me on the ear. I remember it sounded so loud and would always leave my ear ringing.
Aside from that, LO gets kissed all over. Mainly on those irresistible cheeks, but also on the lips if I'm up for a slobbery kiss!
(Off topic: SarahMaria, I love your siggy pic. My LO is obsessed with getting his toes in his mouth, too!)
I kiss him all over his face but not on the lips. I don't really have a problem with it, but DH thinks it's weird. My sister kisses her two kids on the lips, and they're so used to it that they go to kiss everyone else on the lips too. I don't want DS to kiss anyone else on the lips so I don't want to teach him that.

yep this for me too... DS is extremely drooly. But overall, i have a subconscious reflex to be constantly kissing him. Oh... & eating him :-)

I'm pretty much this! I've never really thought about it one way or the other really. I just LOVE kissing her chubby cheeks, but occasionally she'll turn and I'll get a slobbers all over my mouth! Totally okay though! My family is very affectionate but we never kissed on the mouth. DH's family, well, they're a little "colder", so definitely no mouth-kissing for them.
This!!!!
Open mouth drool kisses for me too!!
This. I don't intentionally do it. But it's happened. I'm not against it at this age. Just wasn't raised like that and neither was DH.
I also agree with the PP-I would think kissing babies on the lips would be an older generation thing. Funny.

Thank you! He always ends up laughing when he puts his toes there -- like he knows how silly it is for him to be doing that! So cute!
(oh and I love your siggy too- what a great angle for a picture!)

Yep, pretty much this. I also agree with the PP, I don't think I've ever thought about it at all until I saw this post...
This was interesting to think about. I kiss B on the lips all of the time (as well as cheeks, neck, etc). DH though avoids kissing her on the lips and always goes for the cheek. We used to joke that she was trying to get him because she'd pull a fast one on him every time he was going for a cheek kiss and turn her head at the last minute. I think he feels a little weird with it now, but I can't imagine him not giving her smooches on the lips when she's a little older, but who knows.
It's weird though. My dad still gives me a kiss on the lips with a hug and it's totally normal to me, but I couldn't tell you the last time I kissed or was kissed by my mother. And DH just hugs his parents...
