I WAH at my last position and hated it. At the time DH worked 72+ hours per week and we have only been in TX about 2 yrs. I don't know much people so I felt lonely for lack of better words.
I also do not have a comfortable office space at home so physically it isnt enjoyable to WAH.
I love my new job. It's 10 mins from home tops, I like the pople I work with and its 3 mins from DC. I CANT work from home under the client I currently support but I CAN stay with this employer and just service another client which would give me the ability to work from home 100%
The problem is that I would still get lonely if I WAH. A "perfect' work enviorment for me would be the ability to leave when I have done my work for the day. They only way I could do that is take a WAH here and then go home and "work" the rest of the day.
I dont know I am doing a lot of rambling but any suggestions ladies for someone who does not want to WAH 100% of the time but still wants to work at my current employer?
Re: Does anyone here not WAH but has the ability to?
Technically I have the ability to WAH, but my boss won't allow it. In an ideal world I'd WAH half the time, and from the office the other days. I can WAH on rare occasions (in lieu of a sick day, if the cable guy is coming, inclement weather, etc.) but I can't "abuse" it. My counter-part is actually working from home for a month or so currently due to a medical issue that's making it dangerous to drive (randomly lost vision in one eye and is going to specialists).
So, to your actual question - is it possible to work from home a few days, and in the office the rest of the week?
Only if I take the exclusive WAH position. But then if I do that it my be my coworkers WAH day the day I come in. That would leave me lonely at work too. Well I guess we can all agree on days to WAH and days to come in. Hmm, I think you just gave me a great solution.
I really don't mind being at work I just hate being there when I am done my work for the day.
ETA: Your boss sounds like mine. I asked if I could WAH tomorrow since I am only working 2 hours tomorrow and she said no I have to come in. I was kind of pissed but not surprised.
My employer allows WAH part of the time, but I haven't filled out my application to do it yet. I think I'm going to get denied on a technicality - my last performance review was under a different job title (but with the same exact duties) so they will likely deny me until I have a performance review under my current title.
I want to WFH 2-3 days/week and come in the rest of the time to get the social aspect and get out of the house. I agree that it would be difficult to be home alone 5 days a week without any interaction besides DH and DS at night.
Maybe I will give the application a shot...who knows they might overlook that technicality.
My job is listed as "telecomute eligible" but my work environment (read:boss) isn't on board with it. The gov't is still pretty old school when it comes to this kind of stuff. Even though I carry a blackberry and am always available via e-mail, the big bosses still expect everyone to come to the office.
There are rare occasions when we "work from home" but it's usually only for bad weather.
I have the ability to log into my work computer from home, but the information I can access is limited -- I'm not allowed to access "classified" information on my home computer (understandable).
I don't mind coming in most of the time -- I like my job & coworkers!
