Parenting after a Loss

Crib questions

So, she went from sitting up, crawling, and now pulling up into a standing position all in a matter of weeks!

It is time to lower the crib, but how do I get her to stop chewing on it? She has used her two bottom teeth to scrape the paint/stain/color off of the crib. I know rail covers are supposed to help with the top, but what about the slats?

Are there rail covers that have some padding? This is probably a paranoid mom thing but I'm worried that she'll pull herself up, then fall and hit her face on the top of the crib. Is that a silly worry?

Re: Crib questions

  • I have no idea what this product was called but when I was pregnant with em I found a bumper system that cover the slate with padding. It wrapped around each one. It was a form of breathable bumpers.

  • Not sure what they are called but they have them at BBB.  There are 2 sets of 2 you can buy.  One for the railing-the other for the ends of the crib.  I'm probably shelling out for them soon.

  • My LO did that too. He kept getting up from his naps with brown stuff all over his face and we wouldn't figure out where it was coming from. By the time we noticed it, he had ruined his crib. Oh well.....live and learn. Its good to know they make something to protect the crib. Next time we will be more prepared for teeth I guess.  Make sure you put the mattress down far enough. We put it to what we thought was all the way down and we woke up in the middle of the night to a loud thump and my LO sitting on his butt in the middle of his room, not knowing what the heck to think!

  • I got these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00208RTX6/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00

They sell them in the long versions for the sides (the above) and short for the ends, which I also got. I put them on before she ever got a tooth and there isn't a single mark on the crib. Her crib was $$$ and while I'm not sure if/when we'll have another, I wanted to keep it in good shape.

  • I think they sell gummy like ones that are easier on their little teeth...I say them at Bru though I have no experience with them, Kam never chewed the crib and G isn't there yet...Shoot he isn't even laying in there yet Embarrassed

But uhm HOLY COW, that is a huge week!!! I can't believe you are pulling up!!

  • Did your bedding come with a bumper pad? You can use the bumper to cover the crib rails too. If you look around on Pinterest you should be able to find a pic.

I've never seen a baby chew on the slats. A breathable bumper may help though.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, ladies!

We currently use a breathable bumper, which she just pulls down. We'll probably remove them when we lower the crib since I am paranoid she will use those to step and climb on.

Thanks for the links to the rail covers. We will look into those and if it doesn't offer enough protection, put extra padding underneath them or something.

Okay these are insanely expensive, but what about something like this?

We have a breathable bumper now, but I think I'm going to have my grandma make us something like these.

Those look awesome, but crazy expensive!

I am the least crafty person in the world, and I made these for her crib. They were about $30 total for the fleece.

    https://navigatingthemothership.blogspot.com/2010/03/gone-crafty-cheap-easy-crib-rail.html

No sewing, just cut and tie. Work GREAT.

eta: And be sure to get that mattress lowered, a mom in my neighborhood waited a little too long and her LO took a huge tumble. He banged himself up pretty badly.

I'm totally making these!  Thanks for the link!
