Ds infant carrier expires in December and were ready to move to a convertible that can be rear facing for another year still and that will also then go forward facing with harness and then belt booster. Ideally the last car seat we'd have to buy for ds. Anyone know what this seat would be? Links are awesome.
Re: Car seat rec please
We have two Britax Blvds and love them. She has been in hers since about 3 months.

We have the roundabout and the marathon. They are both great, but the marathon harness adjusts without rethreading the straps. I have a civic and it fits with plenty of room. My Chicco keyfit30 took up more space than the Marathon.
There are always added safety features and things with new strollers, but no, they don't expire like carseats.
Typically these carseats that you describe are not the best option. Safety wise, they meet standards, but can often be more difficult to use. Belt boosters are cheap....$15-20. Get a good convertible seat and move to a belt booster later. There is also the chance your seat will expire before you get to the belt booster anyways.
We have Britax Marathons in DH's Highlander and my Corolla. They RF up to 40lbs (I think) and FF up to 70lbs. They are not boosters.
DH wanted one that would convert to a booster, but there are only a couple on the market and they were expensive and huge. The boosters alone are pretty cheap, so I'm not worried about having to buy those in a few years.

We have two Britax boulevards and love them. I like the no-rethread harness, comfy seating and DS seems super happy in them. We switched at 2.5 months when DS would scream uncontrollably in the car with the infant seat. The switch solved the screaming.
We are considering a third seat to use for travel/grandparents/friends. If we do get a third, it will likely be a Marathon.
I think all of the Britax seats take up about the same amount of space. The Advocate seems wider though. The Boulevard takes up a lot less space than the Snugride did, too.
We have a Graco MyRide that we are very happy with. On top of the great ratings, it feels and looks safe. I also love that it has two cup holders. We put all of Audrey's car toys in there. She knows exactly where they are and reaches for them every time. It's rear-facing up to 40 pounds and FF up to 60 pounds.
We also have Cosco Scenera in DH's car. We went less expensive there since she's not in that car very much and it's a small sedan. We do NOT love this car seat. It doesn't feel as strong and safe as the MyRide. It has good safety ratings and is ranked highest among budget seats, but we don't care for it. I don't know why this bothers me, but we had to roll a towel up underneath just to keep it level.
We are looking into replacing the Scenera soon.
