XP: Conquering the early wakeup...

DD has gotten in the habit of waking quite early.  She formally used to sleep until 7-7:30 (she does sttn) but over the last month or so has been waking anywhere from 5-6am.  When she used to sleep later, she would wake ready to go and would NOT fall asleep in the car on the way to daycare.  Now, she wakes and can not get herself back to sleep (this am, I went in and rocked her and she did fall asleep on my shoulder but as soon as I put her down she woke), additionally, she now typically rubs her eyes within 1/2 of being up and falls asleep on the way to daycare (I've read that means they are not getting enough sleep).  We moved her bedtime forward from 7:40 to 7:20 (I read that can help) a few weeks ago.  She does have blackout blinds in her room.  I really feel that she is getting up too early (the eye rubbing, becoming fussy earlier than she used to, falling asleep in the car, etc).  Anyone successfully transition away from the early wakeup/conquer the early wakeup?

My DD does this once in a while.  We found that if we just leave her in her crib she will babble herself back to sleep.

  • It's possible that she's teething. My son did the same thing right before this past tooth came in,

  • no help here.  my kids are the same.  they wake up at 5:15 sharp every morning. I feed them, change their diaper, let them play, and 30min later they start rubbing their eyes.  I put them back to sleep by 6-ish, and they usually sleep until 7.  Another hour.  I have no idea how to change this, so I just accept it

  • DD started doing the same thing a month or so ago.  The only thing that fixed it is moving her bedtime up.  She used to be asleep by around 8 and would wake up around 7:30.  Then she started getting up at 6:30 and would be tired and grumpy.  So I moved her bedtime up to 7 and she still wakes up usually around 6:30 but she's rested and in a great mood.

This.  DD used to wake up too early until I instigated a hard and fast rule not to go in to get her before 6:00 in the morning (and now that she's an hour later, I don't go in before 7).  She'll still often wakes up early, but if I ignore her (she maybe groans a little or babbles but doesn't cry) she goes back to sleep until 7:30 to 8.
