1st Trimester

Red bleeding w/o cramps

I've been spotting brown when I wipe for a little over a week, and Sunday was the first day without any spotting whatsoever.  I worked out this morning, and a few hours later - it's red when I wipe, and there's a dime sized amount of red on my underwear. I'm not cramping at all, and still have the same symptoms I've been having.

I called the doctor, who is fitting me in for an u/s on Wed (the soonest they can get me in) morning, but until then, have you ever heard of this happening that didn't have a bad outcome?

Red spotting/bleeding can be normal. It can also be a sign of a problem. However, as long as it sticks to just spotting and not full on bleeding with clumps, you have every reason to be optimistic. FX and keep us posted!

Thanks!  It's definitely still spotting, though seeing red is scary no matter how little it is!  Looks like DD and I are having a Disney princess marathon today...

  • I had quite a bit of brown/pink spotting (no cramps) with DD and everything was fine.  I hope everything turns out fine for you too!
  • I started red spotting when I slept on my stomach.  Since I stopped sleeping on my stomach I haven't had any spotting since.

  • I had some red spotting and it turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma. That was at 6 weeks. I had an u/s and the doctor wasn't terribly concerned, but told me to rest and try to stay off my feet. At my follow up apt at 8w3d, it had already cleared itself up. The doctor said that was really fast for it to clear up, but that most subchorionic hematomas resolve themselves by 20 weeks.

Scary but normal. I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. All was okay. Good luck.

  • While bleeding in pregnancy is never considered normal, it is fairly common.

Your cervix is incredibly sensitive right now, even straining during a bowel movement can cause it to get irritated and result in bleeding.  It can be your body telling you that you over did it and to relax.

Drink plenty of water, relax and think positive thoughts.  :)

  • Spotting is normal and if its brown its probably because you haven't had a period in a while. How far along are you? Also if your not cramping then you should be fine. When i miscarried i was bleeding so much and had the worst cramps of my life so you should be fine. Good Luck!!!!!!
  • I have been spotting off and on almost the whole pregnancy. Even more now. I went for an u/s today, and everything is fine. I could clearly see my baby's strong heartbeat and there was no bleeding in my uterus. The Dr said the cervix is just engorged with blood and easily irritated. She said it should stop in a few weeks, thoughs he is also testing for possible infections- which can be treated and will clear it up. Try not to worry, though I know it's hard. Good luck!

  • Thanks all for the kind words. :)  DD and I have been relaxing all day (she thinks it's the biggest treat I've let her watch 2 movies in a row!), and the red spotting has pretty much turned brown again.  I'm still going to the u/s on Wed, but feeling slightly more hopeful now.

  • I had a ton of red bleeding with DD2 and with this baby and they are both great. In my case it was because I had BV both times and that can irritate the cervix and cause it to bleed. Also this time I have low lying placenta and OB said that can cause spotting/bleeding as well.

  • I had the same... Turns out I have a small (I mean tiny) bleed in my uterus. I have a follow up ult in 3 weeks and until then they told me light exercise, no heavy lifting, and no sex.... Depressed about the exercise part ( sorry hubby, I have no sex drive)... That's been the only thing keeping me motivated, I've been so sick and so tired, blah!

Anyways, bleeds are common, can range in size. If I didn't have that knowledge beforehand, they would've worried me...  Keep an eye on the bleeding! And please keep us updated!
