Where there any signs you were going to deliver early?

I have no idea why but for some reason everyone likes to tell me that they're convinced I'm going to deliver early. Does anyone else get these comments? I even get these comments from strangers. The only thing I can think of is that my belly sticks out really far. It's narrow on the sides but sticks out really, really far. I'm not sure if it's how the baby is positioned or what. I do think the doctors are off on my due date because when I first was seen they told me the 18th of June (which also coincides with the last day of my last period) and then they switched it to the 25th after my 6 week ultrasound. Each time they looked at the size of my baby he measured over a week and a half ahead. Anyway, for those of you that have delivered earlier than expected, were there any warning signs/clues?

Re: Where there any signs you were going to deliver early?

  • I had my first DD at 39 weeks and my second at 37w1d...and I'm still holding onto DS right now at 37+weeks.  I have been told since about 28 weeks "you aren't gonna make it" but thing is, each baby has their own plan and there really is no telling.  I thought I was going to have this one really early as in too early around 35weeks, but luckily he's held on.  I'm not dilated like I was at this point with the girls but I still get the comments.."you're still here?!" and "any day now"...etc...which plays with my head and makes me even more anxious.  I haven't had my bloody show yet which I had already had with the girls, so until I see that or my water breaks or I start having contractions regularly it is what it is...no signs/clues beyond that.  HTH.

  • My belly is big and people have been telling me since 30 weeks that I look like I am going to have the baby any minute. When they ask me now when am I due and I say 5 weeks, they look at me like I'm a liar. LOL

I was the same way with my son and I had a scheduled c-section at 38 weeks with NO sign of him coming any time soon.

    Hang in there!

  • I had DD1 at 36 weeks and the only thing that was bothering me a few hours before having here was I was having lots of BH contractions. I probably should have gone in, but just decided to save myself a trip and just load up on water which eventually made them stop. Then about 9-10 hours later I woke up in the middle of the night and discovered my water had broke. I had also been about 3 cm dialated according to my OB at my appt. a few days prior (even though I know dialation can mean nothing).

Saturday night I was having a lot of BH contractions and did call my doctor who told me chug water which made them stop. I have my next appt. tomorrow and like I said even though dialation can mean nothing, I am still anxious to see if I have dialated at all.

  • When EDD is calculated by dates, you go by the first day of your last period, which is why you were given the 25th vs the 18th. The 18th was based on the last day of your period. The 25th coincides with the u/s too.

The way you carry, how big or small you are has no bearing on when baby will come.

The not knowing, especially as a FTM can be overwhelming. With my first the night before my water broke, I felt off. I thought I ate something bad. My stomach was upset, I had cramps, a sore back and was in the bathroom almost every 2 hours that entire night.  The next afternoon, my water broke. DS was born on his due date.

  • My first came at 37 weeks, and I didn't have any warning signs.  I actually felt good enough the night before that I had gone to see a movie.  It was totally out of the blue!

Thank you for clarifying the EDD issue.

The night before your water broke what kind of cramps did you have? Where were you cramping. Also you said you went to the bathroom every 2 hours, was that #1 or #2? I know I've been waking up every two hours having to go #1 for days now.

  • I haven't delivered yet but I've had "signs" of delivering early starting from 34w5d when I went into preterm labor.  I was having contractions 5 minutes apart that caused my cervix to dilate to 2cm when we decided to try and stop labor.  It stopped and and of last week, I am still 2cm dilated and 50% effaced.  Turtle has been "engaged" in my pelvis for 4 weeks now also.

Almost 5 weeks later, I'm still pregnant!

  • With my first, I had an appt 11 days before my due date where I wasn't thinned or dilated.  I went back to work and my OB was planning my c-section for the day I would hit 39 weeks.  I went to the bathroom at work and every time I stood up, it was like I still had pee coming out.  After several instances of this, I finally realized my water must have broken.  I really didn't have any signs leading up to it and was caught totally off guard.  I did have to take care of business on the toilet which can be a sign, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

  • I had DS at 37 weeks and had no signs of delivering early. I was 50% effaced and not dilated at my 36 week appointment. It came out of the blue. Woke up at 3am to go to the bathroom, woke up at 4 am to go to the bathroom again. My body was cleansing itself out. Contractions started around 5am, lost my mucous plug at 6am, and my water broke at 7:45 am. I was in denial until my water broke. But I had no signs or symptoms up until then.

  • Is it normal to have menstrual like cramps? I had them really bad last night and they kept me up for most of the night. The cramps went away and now there come and go but are far apart today? I asked my doctor and he's said it's normal and that it's prob my uterus and pelvis getting ready. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am right at this moment.  I keep drinking water and have made the decision to wait until I am done with work and if it is still going on, I will call the dr.

  • The only opinion I care about it's my doctors lol She told me she really thinks I'm going to go early.  At my last appt. she checked my cervix and it had dropped down a lot from where it was 2 weeks ago and she said it was extremely soft.  Still only 1cm dilated and 50% thinned out though.

I've been loosing chunks of MP for weeks now and I also am constantly going to the bathroom every 1-2 hours(mostly #1). I've been having a lot more BH contractions lately and period like cramps....I'm assuming maybe those are contractions too?  Guess we'll see what the future holds! Big Smile

  • I delivered my first baby @ 32 weeks, with no signs of labor, pain, pressure, nothing. The only reason I "knew" was because I went in for my 32 week appointment and the nurse checked me. My cervix was completely open, and she could see the baby's bag of water. I think I made it a week after that before my water broke. I didn't have any cramping, no contractions, NOTHING. It was pretty wild.

     Good luck :)

  • With DD, I went into labor at 41 weeks with zero signs until the day before. I woke up at 5 a.m. on the Friday morning with moderate menstrual-like cramps. Eventually they went away and I had a completely normal rest of the day.

I woke up at 5 a.m. again on the Saturday with the same exact cramping feeling. This time, they didn't go away and seemed to develop a pattern so we started timing them. I lost my mucus plug later that morning around 10 a.m. Went to the hospital at 10:30 a.m. and I was only 2 cm. They kept me though and DD was born at 1:21 a.m. Sunday morning.
