So I didn't get to see my actual doctor today just the nurse practitioner. They said my blood pressure was high and I had gained 5 lbs in the past week. So now there watching me for pre eclampsia. My sister had this and had to have a c section because they couldn't get it under control.
I already know the signs to watch for I just need to know what to avoid doing. Should I avoid going in the sun or doing alot of activity? Eating certain foods? Ive never had high blood pressure so I don't even know what people with it are suppose to eat. I assume low fat? Should I avoid sugar or something? blah I feel kind of stupid right now. I know these are questions I should have asked the doctor but that nurse practitioner hates me and all the doctors were delivering babies. She just told me to lay on my left side an hour at a time 3 times a day. Should I quit walking at night? I figure someone has had to have been given better instructions then I was.
I go back Tuesday to set an induction unless I get a headache or blurred vision before then.
Anyway any advice would be great, I just have no idea about any of this.
Re: need advice on pre eclampsia and high bp
Be sure to stay hydrated and avoid overly salty foods. I'd consider skipping the evening walk and taking it easy.
Do you go back in tomorrow or next week Tuesday? If it's next week, I'd call your clinic to get a better idea of what they'd like you to do for diet and activity. Good luck!
My OB told me that there's not a lot to do to prevent pre-eclampsia. I was told to lay low and sleep on my left side, and those things were just to maintain my blood pressure where it was.
I was told to call immediately if I noticed headaches, blurred vision, extreme swelling, or pain in my upper abdomen. The plan was to induce me within 3 days of the appointment where I found out about my high bp, but I went into labor on my own the next day. My high bp continued for about 10 days post partum--actually it got even higher. It's now back in the normal range and it's crazy how much better I felt when it dropped.
Can your doctor sweep your membranes to see if that will kick start things before you're induced?
BFP #1: 6/10/11 Natural m/c 6/20/11
BFP #2: 8/30/11 Vanishing Twin diagnosed at 8 weeks, DS born 5/6/12
BFP #3: 5/24/14 stick, baby, stick! Beta 1 (16dpo): 645, Beta 2 (18dpo): 1652
This. Salty foods are bad for high BP,and try to take it easy.
I would call and ask about activity ... with DS1 I was put on reduced activity, with DS2 I was put on bed rest ... without guidance from OB I would watch how you feel, and try not to over do it.
Avoid salt, google low sodium diet... which is mostly fresh food, avoid processed food.
With DS my pre-eclampsia was much worse than this time around. I was put on bedrest at 32 weeks with him and had protein in my urine and my blood pressure kept going up. I ended up being enduce at 36W3D because of the pre-eclampsia and slight fever.
This PG my blood pressure slowly kept going up and at 37 weeks I was put on bedrest because I had an NST and my pressure was 158/102. I have been going in for bi-weekly NSTs and weekly Dr. visits since. Had my last NST this morning. My pressure has stayed down on bedrest.
Good luck! If you are concerned or have questions I would call your Dr. It is better to go with caution.
Im going to call them in the morning and see what they say about the exercise. I went to wal-mart and bought a blood pressure cuff. I also used theres at the store and my blood pressure was the lower number they had gotten with the second reading and when I got home was pretty close to normtal. Maybe I just ate the wrong thing before my appointment or something.
There running around like crazy people trying to get ready for the memorial day weekend break so I doubt they would want to have me come back in to have my membranes swept. They never once even mentioned that as an option, they say my body is ready for labor if the baby would just drop down.
I'm going threw what you went threw, i am having weekly NST's and the 2nd one is where my blood pressure was really high, not sure on my 2nd number but my first one was 169, now i have been taken out of work and i'm only 34 weeks, if i stay high ( chances are not being at work will help it go down lol), doctor says around 37 weeks they may induce , thank you for sharing your experience with us..
