Cloth Diapering

G Diapers?

Hey everyone.

I recently found out I am pregnant. I am very interested in using cloth diapers, probably the gDiapers. I think they will be more cost efficient in the long run and obviously have a lower impact on the earth. Have any of you used this type of cloth diaper or something similiar? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: G Diapers?

  • I personally don't have experience with g-diapers but from what others on this board have said they are much more expensive and more of a hassle as far as cloth diapering goes.  If you're looking to go a cheap route then you should check into Pre-folds and covers.  The Faqs link above has tons of info, goodluck! I thought gDiapers would be easy to use and cheap, so I just got all gdiapers. I wish I hadn't as we are now trying to get enough pocket diapers to make cloth diapering still work.

Gdiapers leaked horribly. He outgrew the smalls before he was big enough for the mediums, and as he started kicking more the nylon liner (the white middle part) actually rubbed his legs so bad that it rubbed him raw with the smalls.

So I would suggest looking into something else, we have fuzzibunz, alva's and sunbabies now and I love them and barely have any leaks, even though Alijah is a heavy wetter so I do have to double up the liners.

I have been using G diapers on my son since he was born. I use the cloth insert in addition to the disposable insert and I have not had many issues other than at night. However, I recently have been having a lot of nighttime diaper changes so I decided to try an one size pocket diaper, which I just tried for the first time last night, and it was incredible. After 12 hours my son was completely dry when I changed him this morning. I think G diapers are a great option, they don't scare babysitters as much, and they are great for going out, but if I had it to do all over again, I may have chosen to use pocket diapers instead. Sorry I know this is all over the place, but I wanted to share my experience and honest opinions with you.
  • I have been using g diapers too, I thing they are very good and very simple too use I don't have any problems about leaking or any other issue about g diapers.

  • GDiapers are definitely NOT one of the cheaper options!  They are actually quite pricey.  If you are looking for a hybrid, look in to Flips, Charlie Banana or Grovia.

Gs are actually quite tricky to get a good fit, notoriuosly leak, and have sizing issues. A lot of people get frustrated with them quickly.

  • You sound just like I did. I thought gDiapers would be the "easy" way to CD. I bought some and used them for a day or two, then ordered a huge shipment that Friday. I used them all weekend and discovered I hated them! They leaked ALL.THE.TIME. They rubbed the thighs of both my kids and left dark red lines on them. They're not any easier, and are actually more of a PITA because you have 3 parts to the system. The red gDiaper I had bled in the wash. I returned the entire shipment and sold the rest. Not to mention all the gdiapers I bought I probably spent $450 on. Now I use Flips for daytime, bumgenius 4.0's for nighttime, and Sew Is Your Baby for naps. I love my current system and don't have any issues with it.
