When to get stim prescription filled??

Hey Ladies,

I've got my prescription for my medications already because I told my RE I'm almost positive that my insurance coverage will be changing and right now I have 100% coverage until my company gets bought out (which I'm not positive of when that will happen.)

Anyways, my question to you is... When should I fill the prescription? Ideally I would like to do IVF as soon as possible. We are still going through a few tests and June 19th we have our follow up to see whether or not they want to try and repair DH's varicocele or if there is much point in wasting that time.. I'd like to be stimming in September at the latest.

I don't think I'd fill the Rx until I knew when I was starting. To me it seems odd that the RE would already know your protocol and/or give you a Rx when you still have testing being done. If they think they can repair the varicocele, then IVF may not even be necessary, and all of the meds wouldn't even be needed. On the flip side, if you're set on doing IVF anyway, then I personally wouldn't even bother with the varicocele repair.

I don't know... it just seems to be jumping the gun in my opinion. But I'm sure your RE knows what is going on, so if he/she is okay with you ordering now, then I'd do it as soon as you know your insurance coverage is ending.

I'd make sure you get it filled before your insurance changes. 100% coverage is amazing! None of the drugs will go bad before Sept.

For us, they were scheduling varicocele repairs 2 months out at the earliest. Then it's usually a 3 month wait to check and see if the SA improved. I'm not sure how you would fit that in before doing IVF in Sept at the latest.

If you have insurance coverage for the meds now, I would try to get it filled. Our clince said to estimate $2-5k for meds alone. But watch out for expiration dates and any meds that need special handling like refrigeration.

Like everyone is saying, get it filled while you have coverage. Also, in my opinion, it's good to have a bit more than you need. 1) in case you need to cycle again 2) you don't have to worry about refilling and paying OOP 3) to donate back to your clinic or to someone you know.

Thanks for your opinions ladies! I'm really on the fence with a varicocele repair, the way my RE talks it sounds like he has very little hope that the repair would ever make it so that we would be able to conceive naturally or even to the point where IUI would work... So I'm feeling like what's the point to waste the time? Are there other health benefits to doing a repair?

My DH has s stage 3 varicocele on one side and stage 2 on the other. We were told the repair will most likely still leave us in the range of needing IVF. We decided to go ahead and do IVF then have the repair after. My retrieval is Wed and his surgery is in 2 weeks but he has severe pain due to his varicocele. I don't think there is any reason to have the surgery if you are doing IVF unless he is having pain.

Oh and I would totally get the meds now if you have coverage!!

Thanks so much for the info on the Varicocele. We don't go back to the RE until middle of June. I've had all my testing done and so far looks so good, the only thing left for me to do is an ultrasound this week to count my follicles, DH has an ultrasound coming up to get a better view. Anyways, I just am starting to lean towards possible leaving the varicocele repair for later especially if they tell us we will most likely need IVF anyways.. My DH has no pain with his at all.
