I feel just about prepared for L&D, (well, as prepared as one can feel), and now I need to read up on parenting a newborn and infant. I plan to read/watch Happiest Baby on the Block, but what else? I'd like to learn about safe bed-sharing, baby wearing, etc.
Re: XP: Books for newborn/infant stage?
It's not what I would have expected...but more often than not we pick up Baby 411 when we want answers to things like baby temperature charts, sleep/nap norms, warning signs for sickness things, development stages, red flags, etc.
I wouldn't say I agree with everything in the book...but the auther makes it pretty easy to use it as a quick reference quide, and fairly good "taking care of newborn" crash course. Apparently, that's all we wanted.
I found The Baby Whisperer really helpful in the beginning. Also, Ferber's book is fascinating. Even if you never have sleep issues, it's really good to read what he says about how infant sleep patterns develop in utero and through the early years.
becomingmamas.com is a blog by a (former?) bumpie. She hasn't posted anything new recently, but she has a ton of posts on baby wearing, BLW, bedsharing, etc.
