January 2013 Moms

What are you doing for maternity clothes?

Being due in Jan. is kind of an awkward time in that I will hopefully just be showing by late summer.  What do you plan on doing for clothes, obviously you don't want to purchase a whole wardrobe since it will only maybe two months at the most?

  • I plan on living in dresses this summer. Once it starts to get cool I'll probably try to get by with a couple pairs of pants and hope that I can make my shirts work. I have tons of cardigans so I think if I get a couple maternity tanks and wear open cardigans all the time I might be ok.

  • I am planning on grabbing a couple pairs of shorts and some tanks for the tail end of summer. If this is your first you can probably get away with wearing your regular shorts with a belly band through the end of summer. With my first I don't think I was in full blown maternity until after 20 weeks.

  • I'm not much help since I already have a wardrobe from last time.  I got most of my clothes from ON and Target.  2nd hand stores also have great finds.  You can also find clothing swaps on line.

  • My BFF is going to allow me to borrow her clothes but I've also started hitting up garage sales. I've spent $5 total and gotten two pairs of work slacks, two work/dress tops and one everyday top. It's hard to know what size you will be when but so far everything has fit with "room to grow". Smile

I'm also planning to watch the sales racks at Target, JcP and other stores.

For the summer, I'm probably going to try and find one or two good pairs of maternity shorts but since the majority of my time is spent in work slacks, I'm watching for those at sales.

I've also seen people on my local Craigslist selling large totes of clothing for low prices.

  • I live in Florida and can usually wear summer dresses well into November. I've got some stuff from DD, but I'll probably invest in more dresses and some shorts.
  • I'll probably be wearing the same few outfits all the time! I refuse to buy much more than maybe a few dresses and like 2 pairs of maternity pants.

  • I live in Florida too so we don't get very cold. I have a few maxi dresses and some bigger jeans and shirts from before I lost a few pounds. I already needed to buy smaller pants so maybe I will go back into what I already have. A lot of my tops are the swingy roomy type anyway, I really noticed the other day

  • All you Florida people stink by the way! lol

Being here in mid-MO we are entering the heat of the summer soon and then by November or December we could have snow and ice or still have nice weather! So hard to plan.

I'm basically taking the approach of trying to find items I can wear at work for now and then I'll focus more on the everyday around the house wear later.

I felt terrible because I had to wear a tshirt to church! Now of my cute little shirts fit well or looked good to me, despite what DH said. Thankfully, we go to a very easy going college center church so wearing a tshirt is not totally out of place.

That's a good question. It' will stay really hot here in North Texas for a while, so I will probably play it by ear and just start buying stuff as needed when I start to show.

I'm not sure when I would need this, but I'll definitely make sure I have a decent coat or thick jacket that fits once late fall/ winter hits, because I hate hate hate to be cold in the winter time.

  • i already have some clothes from last time, but to be honest, i didn't dress very cute when i was pg with DD....it was just kind of a get by mentality. i'm hoping i can look a little more put together this time :) is that vain?? haha, anyway, i'm a huge thrift store shopper, so luckily it won't break my bank. :)

I don't think its vain at all. I want to be as cute of a pregnant woman as I can be. Big Smile

  • I have to wear coveralls at work, so I don't have to worry about getting too much of a work wardrobe and casual wardrobe.  I'm going to try and borrow some friend's stuff and hit up the consignment shops.  I'd like to have one or two nicer outfits for the holidays.  Keep an eye on Zulily for deals, they sometimes have some good maternity/nursing deals.

  • I live in Wisconsin...many weather changes :)  As of now, I plan on wearing dresses if I can throughout the summer.  I also have two pairs "dressy stretchy capris" that I will most likely wear.  Other than that, I haven't thought much into it.  I know I will have to get pants once fall/winter hits, but until then I should be ok.

  • eBay!! I hope!!  I only have a few items from last time since before I was able to borrow a lot. This time don't think that will be the case. Oh and consignment shops and yard sales!!!

  • I haven't given this any thought - yikes! This is my first so I think I'm kind of in denial about how big I'll get later on and am hoping I can wear what I have for awhile and toward the end buy a bunch of cute wrap dresses.

I don't want to pay a ton of money for maternity clothes so will probably just buy a few "nice" things for going out/special occasions and then get the rest from places like Old Navy (stuff like black pants that you can wear a lot without people noticing).

  • I plan on trying to wear my clothes for as long as possible. I'll buy minimum maternity clothing the last few months. I may just try to buy larger sizes, we'll see how it goes. Since this is my first pregnancy, I don't have much to base it on. I'm just taking it one day at a time right now.

  • I have a full wardrobe from last time that will season wise fit again (DD was a Dec baby) I plan on getting a few more summer things as I will probably show sooner this time and I really don't have a lot of summery stuff now.

Invest in maternity leggings. They are amazing and I layered them under dresses the whole time.

I did majority of my shopping at Kohls clearance with my extra 30% coupon and saved a ton of $$$$Honest I didnt get to your average size at the end with our complications so I wore a ton of regular t shirts cause then still fit. And now my SIL has all of my clothes haha and I am not ready to tell them yet so who knows when I will get them all back lol.

  • DS was born in September, and DD was in May, so between the two of them, I have maternity clothes for pretty much any weather.  I never bothered with a maternity coat, though; it just seemed easier to wear my regular winter coat unzipped.
  • I'm about 6 weeks ahead of when I got pregnant with my DS so I'm *hoping* that I'll be able to wear the same maternity clothes this time around.  However, it's kind of hard to say because last time, I didn't have a bump until like... 24 weeks or something like that and the fact that I might be showing earlier this time (because it's my 2nd pregnancy) AND being 6 weeks ahead of schedule I might end up needing warm-weather maternity clothes as well (all of my mat clothes are for cold weather) and they're also mostly made up of dressier clothes that I wore to the office and now I'm a SAHM so I may end up needing to buy a few more casual pieces anyway.  Not to mention, being in Ohio, the weather is kind of unpredictable.  Early Fall could have temps in the 90s or it could be snowing, hard to say!  I think my plan is going to be to just wait and see what happens.  If I do end up needing mat clothes when it's still warm, I'll have to figure something out!

Do you have good luck at goodwill? I'd be willing to check it out but I wasn't sure if they had a good selection of maternity clothing or not?

  • Luckily living in FL I won't have to worry about much of this. I'm really hoping to not have to buy any (or only 1) maternity item. I plan on living in dresses for the most part since it's warm here practically all the time.

  • I had lost about 12-14 lbs before getting pregnant so I am hoping that will hold me over for a while. Otherwise I will just live in sun dresses or basketball shorts and t-shirts.
