Hi there. I feel just about prepared for L&D, (well, as prepared as one can feel), and now I need to read up on parenting a newborn and infant. I plan to read/watch Happiest Baby on the Block, but what else? I'd like to learn about safe bed-sharing, etc. We plan to practice most elements of attachment parenting, so I thought I'd ask here first! TIA!
Re: Books?
THE books for bedsharing: https://www.amazon.com/Sleeping-Your-Baby-Parents-Cosleeping/dp/1930775342
Others for babies:
The Baby Book- Dr. Sears (Everything from birth to AP to baby/child development)
Attachment Parenting- Dr. Sears
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (2010 edition)
"Like" Attachment Parenting International on FB for lots of good articles and links.
The go-to gentle sleep book is The No Cry Sleep Solution, but it wans't a fit for our family. We tend to go more on baby's cues than creating rituals, which is both our style and a reality of our working-full-time-with-baby-along lifestyle.
Books for as the child ages
(Recommended to me. I have not yet read them most of them.)
Unconditional Parenting
Rasing Our Children Raising Ourselves
Playful Parenting
The Continuum Concept
How to Talk So Kids Will Listen, and Listen So Kids Will Talk
Siblings Without Rivalry
Attached at the Heart
Beyond the Sling
More Green For Less Green
I actually wish I had read this breastfeeding book when I was preggo: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding - it's by the La Leche League and is really awesome.
I had some trouble (still do - inverted/flat nipples, oversupply, other possible issues) bf and I must have talked to 5 different lactation consultants at the hospital - and everyone has different opinions. I feel like this is a great resource that is solid and reliable.
I really liked The Baby Book too - and I have the DVD of the Happiest Baby on the Block, highly recommended!
GL!
