I just found out I am pregnant and I had two miscarriages last fall and winter. I then found out I have Hoshimotos and am on Synthroid for a sluggish thyroid. Is anyone else medicated for sluggish thyroid on their first trimester?
I was put on Synthriod during my workup with my RE when I was ttc. I was told that they will periodically check my TSH levels throughout pregnancy as they could change.

I have Autoimmune Thyroid Disease and they *think* it is Hashimoto's Disease but not 100%.
I started Levothyroxine (generic Synthroid) in October when my TSH and T4 levels swung to make me hypothyroid. I was regulated within a month under a TSH of 3.0.
Be sure to take your meds and that your OB is checking your thyroid levels so they don't drop and you become hypothyroid which can be dangerous for the baby.
they discovered i had an underactive thyroid while at my re's office...so i started to see an endocrinologist...we couldn't do any iui until my level reached where ever they wanted it to be..
my endo had told me that as soon as i became pregnant to let him know, i've already been once since my bfp, and have to go again at the end of the month....my level already went down a little and he had to up my dosage....so i think i have to go back every 4 weeks or so to be monitored...
i never knew i had any thyroid issues until we went to the infertility place...turns out it runs in my family...also never knew how important the thyroid is for pregnancy
I was on synthroid with my DD, but my thyroid hormones was wacky during my pregnancy and they ended up taking off of it. In fact, my plan was to get my thyroid checked before I got pregnant again. Oops.
I have a significant thyroid history and my dr keeps a very tight control on me as it is. I was told as soon as I got my BFP to call him. He fit me in 2 days after my BFP. My first labs looked great but just because of my history and how much trouble I have had regulating it I will be seeing him once a month throughout the entire pregnancy and for at least the first trimester we are doing labs every 2 weeks.
I think the big thing is to be proactive and my understanding is that labs once a month is standard during pregnancy, however some Ob's will follow you for the nine months since they see you monthly anyhow. Good Luck!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism just before I got pregnant but took the generic and it didn't work well for me & they completely took me off because my TSH was 5.3 then dipped to 3.8 after a few days.
As soon as I found out I was pregnant they tested again and I was back up to 5.4 so they put my on Synthroid. They told me it's really important to be on the medicine while pregnant because it's dangerous for the baby if my hormones are all out of whack.
My biggest problem with the medicine is having to take it and not eat for an hour in the morning! I'm a hungry pregnant lady!
I was hypothyroid before I got my BFP, but if you have low levels make sure you stay on the medication and definitely get to an endocrinologist if you're not already seeing one. Having a specialist is key here and make sure they are following up on your levels regularly as they can change rapidly throughout pregnancy.

I've been dreading MS kicking in for this reason. With DS I was really nauseous and needed to munch on crackers before I even got out of bed. I can't imagine being able to take it the right way this pregnancy. I'll just throw it up!
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when DS was about 3 months old and had my thyroid removed a month or so later.
I had Graves Disease and my thyroid was killed, so I take synthryoid to help whatever is left of my thyorid. I just go and get blood work drawn once a month (although I was told it could change to every two weeks) and they monitor it to make sure that my levels are where they should be at.
My regular doctor didn't seem particularly worried, I don't go to get my TSH levels checked again for about 5 weeks (2 months apart). I wonder if my OB will be more interested in checking my levels more frequently. I don't think my TSH levels were alarmingly high, just high enough that they wanted to fix the problem.
yes I never knew about my thyroid issue until I had two back to back miscarriages then I found out it runs in my family as well! I am looking for a good endo!
I have been on Synthroid since I was thirteen. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I take my one little pill every morning. I get my levels tested once a year and thats about it. My doctor told me it is very important to keep taking my pill while I am pregnant and so far the recommendation is to have it tested once a trimester. If I feel any symptoms though I will be checking in to make sure everything is okay. Some will be hard to differentiate from pregnancy symptoms but I'll give it shot. Some symptoms are tiredness, irritability, sensitivity to heat or cold, brittle nails, hair falling out, circles around eyes or eyes bugging out, weight gain, goiter (swelling of the thyroid gland that is noticable in the throat). My sister and I both have it and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy with no complications.
