Breastfeeding

Pregnant, Nursing, and Nausea

I have a 12 month old DS who is nursing 3x a day, and just found out that I'm 4 weeks pregnant. Nausea is hitting a lot sooner this time around, and I haven't been able to eat much today. I know while pregnant that my body will feed the baby and ignore me if I'm not eating enough, but what about throwing in BFing too?

DS is *mostly* just nursing for comfort at this point, but he does still get quite a bit when he wakes up and before his nap. He also had weight gain issues due to a gluten intolerance when he was 9 months (he is back on the growth chart and gaining fine now), so I think that plays in to my worries.

I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance that I (and my babies) will be okay. :)

  • It is my understanding, though you should double check with your ob/gyn, that your body with take care of the fetus first, then breastfeeding.  My mom was preg with me when my brother was 9months and she said that the taste of her milk changed, so my brother weaned early because he didn't like the taste.  The only concern that comes immediately to mind would be calcium issues.  Might want to consider keeping an eye on that and then upping your calcium intake through things like broccoli.
