Scared to death to go into labor..

I posted this on the VBAC board too, but this board has a little more action..

Am I the only one who is petrified to go into labor?  I am completely miserable physically, but I feel like I'm going to panic the moment I start feeling real contractions, etc.  I'm not scared to HAVE a baby  (I've already got a toddler), but to physically give birth (as opposed to a c-section) scares the everlivingshit out of me.  I hate that I'm feeling this way when I "should" be excited... ugh. :(

  • I am not attempting a VBAC but so ready for labor to begin, I feel miserable and just ready for LO to arrive.  You can do it, many before you have done it.  My doc says I may have to labor while they set up for my repeat CSec and I sure it will be terrible and scary but I am ready!

And, there is no other option at this point but to deliver!

This is what I remind myself constantly too. I've had 2 previous unmedicated births and, at 37 weeks with #3, definitely have moments of panic about it. But, baby's got to come out! And I've done it before, as have a trillion women before me!

  • I'm attempting VBAC and want nothing more to go into labour again and to actually deliver vaginally.  Yeah, the contractions hurt, yes pushing is exhausting.....but it does have an end.

  • I could imagine why you are nervous...its like the first time again for you.

I am nervous since I am going natural this time...I am confident my body can do it, I am just worried about me handling the pain.

There is nothing wrong with being scared. I keep catching myself worrying about going into labor, but then I force my mind to think positively. Think about the little one that will soon be in your arms. Try to focus on the positive end result instead of the process of getting your child into the world. :)

  • I'm not scared of labor and delivery at all b/c it was really easy for me the first time.  (I should say that my husband says I'm remembering it all wrong, though lol). I'm more worried about the first few weeks of recovery.  The burning pee, the sore nips, the exhaustion.  Ugh.

  • I am more nervous than afraid. DH is going out of town for work and is coming back a couple of days before my due date.

I will be afraid if I go on labor and he is not here...

  • No, I am not scared of labor at all.  I am scared of having a c-section, which is what I'm going to end up with if baby doesn't turn.

I had an unmedicated labor and delivery with my son, and it was really not that bad.  Yes, it hurt, but it ends with a baby.  I am sure you are scared because of the unknown, but hopefully everything will be fine!

  • I am trying to avoid thinking of labour- which I am not too bad until unless I am attempting a BM- TMI I know- but it is scary. I am not sure how I will do with the pain or any of the rest of it.

We recently started Baby Classes -a 10week class put on by our local health authority where the first 5weeks deal with labor prep and the last 5 with baby care. I am hoping that the information they provide will ease some of my fears and DH and will have the experience we are hoping for.

  • It just hit me today, now that I'm full term, that I'm totally scared to go into labor too!  I thought I was so prepared mentally, but now it's really hitting me...this is going to happen...I have to get this baby out of me!  It's freaking me out a little!

  • I'm really scared too, but the closer it gets the more I accept that there really is no other way to get this baby out!
