Fish for LO

Is there any kind of cooked fish that or LO's shouldn't eat at this age?

DH hates fish, I love it but don't buy it since he won't eat it. However, I want DS to eat it so I've decided to start buyingit for him and I.

I love salmon, halibut, and tilapia, but have never cooked any of them :-/, how do you prepare it. Do you recommend anything else and how do you prepare it?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Fish for LO

  • We just avoid high mercury fish but other than that we feed him any kind.  I've grilled and baked it.  Marinades, lemon juice and some garlic, cajun rub, etc.  Baking takes about 20 minutes (until it flakes with a fork).  Grilling a little less in my experience.

I wrap it in foil and grill it, or broil it in the oven. We had salmon tonight and Hannah ate about half of mine!

  • My DH is the same way - he hates fish.  I'm only a fan of the lighter, white fish.  So I make us Tilapia sometimes.  I don't like much on it.  Sometimes I buy fresh salsa or bruschetta and bake it with that on.  Or my husband will grill it up for me with some lemon juice and salt and pepper.  It's pretty quick on the grill - maybe 5 minutes on each side.  Like PP said, the oven is about 20 min on 350

  • we eat lots of fish! We usually just season and grill salmon (leave the skin on, it'll slide off easily once cooked). You can do just about anything with white fish like tilapia, cod, etc. Season and broil, wrap in foil and grill, wrap in parchment with a splash of white wine and bake, dredge in flour or breadcrumbs and pan fry (We do this for LO a lot bc we can make fish "fingers" for her). We do fish tacos or fish sandwiches too.

I wish our daycare would let us send fish!

  • My parents stopped by yesterday as Avery was eating Sushi. They were shocked. The kid loves fish and eats it 2-3 times a week. We usually broil fish filets in the oven in a glass dish with olive oil and seasoning. You can also pick out a good salsa (mango salsa and tilipia are great together.
