Baby seems much older

My LO is 4 months old today and seems sooooo much older. I have been told by many people that he acts like an 8 or 9 month old baby. He makes faces and then giggles. If he is making a funny face and no one is looking, he will yell out so someone looks at him and then does it again and then laughs. He sings when there is music on. He talks to his stuffed animals. He runs his hands through his thick hair when he is tired. He sits on the couch beside me and watches cartoons very intently. He even does his own breast compressions when I am nursing him!

He has always been very alert and looks much older because of his head of full, wild hair. The only bad thing about he seeming to be older is that he never wanted to be cuddled Even as a newborn he would try to sit up in my lap and push me away when I was holding him. He always wanted to be on the floor rolling around.

Anyone else have a baby that is beyond their years? Does this generally mean they will start crawling and walking early?

Re: Baby seems much older

  • Mine acts and looks older as well. He is already wearing 12 month clothes. He is not fat just has a long torso. He can support himself sitting up (I have to sit him up first). He can also walk about 3 feet by holding my fingers for balance, I know that is advanced because I have not seen any other 4 month old babies doing that. I started feeding him and about a week in he started grabbing the spoon so I tried putting the food on the spoon and placing it in front of him. He grabs the spoon and feeds himself. When all the food is off the spoon he drops it and I fill it up for him again. I breast feed but he gets a bottle occasionally and at 3 months he started holding it himself. I can just sit it infront of him and he will pick it up and drink. He loves bananas and can eat one on his own. I just hand him about half of the banana and he holds it and sucks on the end till he gets a piece off then chews it up.

It sounds like your son does more verbal stuff than mine does. Mine "talks" and blows bubbles and squeals but mostly in the mornings and when he wakes up from a nap. The rest of the day he is kind of whiny wanting constant attention. He always wants to stand and walk so I have to help him balance all day, I wish he would be content on the floor. He can roll over but not crawl yet, he can't get traction and does not move his arms when he tries to crawl.
